Thanks for the veggie links - time to get cooking!
You can make pretty much any meat-based dish in the slow cooker, replacing the meat with substitutes like Quorn etc. I bought a slow cooker yesterday and made a lentil and sausage casserole using Cauldron veggie sausages. It was well tasty.

The slow cooker is Asda Smartprice, 1.8L (just the right size for two people), only £9.47. I love a bargain.

    Hi,

This may have already been answered, but I haven't read all the pages yet!

Can anyone recommend a good slow cooker recipe book as all the ones I have looked at have complaints that they are written for the US market and not really that good for the UK.

    Many thanks.

OH wants to use the SC to cook fish. Has anyone got any thoughts/advice/ideas/recipes?
  • Fish really doesn't take long to cook, I don't think it's worth doing in the sc.

Fish requires a quick cooking time. I cannot imagine there will be any recipe's for slow cooking. Maybe stock making.

I'm sure if there are, that somebody will be along.
  • I'm using my MR 6.5 for the 1st time but have lost the recipe book! Can anyone tell me if 5 hours on 'high' is enough for a beef stew?
  • Dissapointed with brisket of beef on Sunday, not sure if I got a bad gristly cut or I didn't cook it long enough.

Anyway have a shin of beef planned for today, intending to add tinned butter beans, should I add them in the last hour or so ? Just have a feeling they may break up.

Got myself a nice Morphy Richards 3.5l slow cooker in the January sales this year, which I love - makes things go SO much further!

Spag Bol is a favourite slow cooker recipe of mine, making me about 8 portions a batch. :D However, before I bought my slow cooker I bought several jars of Dolmio sauce (special offer, naturally!), which I am now loath to use as intended as it doesn't make half as much as the SC for the same amount of mince, and I'm not sure I have a pan big enough to try and do an SC sized batch on the hob!

So, question is has anyone ever tried using Dolmio in a slow cooker instead of the usual tin of tomatoes, and do people think it would work OK?

Oh, and if the answer is 'don't know', please post too, as I'm willing to risk a batch of mince to find out this Saturday if no-one's tried it before! :rotfl:
