has anyone tried a spag bolognes in a slow cooker, i have to say it was foul.
not sure if the tomatoes or onions react with the other ingredients0 -
Borrowed a slow cooker book from library last week and tried this recipe with a turkey leg. It was lovely.
Turkey with wine and peppers
Turkey leg (took skin off and just stripped meat off after cooking)
tbsp flour (mix when browning meat / veg)
onion
3-4 garlic cloves
6 bacon rashers (I use mis-shapes much cheaper!)
1 red pepper
1 yellow pepper
250ml red wine (undrinkable stuff left in cupboard)
120ml stock
Had with mash was yummy.
Whoops first time at this just replied to post from ages ago. Will leave this recipe if anyone fancies it?0 -
I have a gas fired rayburn and have never learnt how to use it properly. Can I use it on low like a slow cooker? Only ask as we tried it many years ago for a casserole for a huge party and the meat was either 'off' before we put it in - or the slow cooking was too slow and it went 'off' while it was being cooked. I will never forget the smell!
Hope this is the right place for this - lurk a lot but don't often post!0 -

I do them all the time and they are fine!
Did you brown the mince first? I always fry up the mince & onions first, as the only time I didn't do that, I have to say it wasn't nice and I ended up liquidising the lot and turning it into a kind of soup! The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

I make it in the slow cooker all the time also. As a poster said above you should brown your mince 1st. I start the whole thing in the wok then transfer it to the slow cooker.0 -
Hi, sorry if this is a repeat - I love my slow cooker, but whenever I try to do chicken, it tastes/smells weird. Not off, as such, and I've not had any problems after eating it, but not very nice either. Does anyone have any tips? I *think* I've tried browning it first.
Aha, have found some suggestions on this thread

Will try this thing - looks like I may have been leaving the chicken too long...DFW stats:
