Not a recipe as such, but if your slow cooker is big enough it's excellent for cooking traditional steamed puddings. I've made a steak and kidney pudding in a pyrex pudding basin, made a lid from greaseproof paper or baking parchment, put it into the slow cooker and half filled the cooker with water from the kettle. Put the lid on and leave for 8-10 hours. Works equally well with steamed jam pudding, treacle sponge etc. I'm hungry now!Mortgage Free as of 03/07/2017 :beer:0

Hi - just got myself a slow cooker on offer - but I got a 3 lt one and I mostly cook for myself!!
So was wondering about doubling up and using the stuff next day ro freezing - mostly veggie stews etc.
How long to you have to boil when reheating them?Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
I would freeze the casseroles etc on the day you make them, defrost in the micro/overnight and then bring them slowly to the boil and keep them boiling for 2-3 minutes stirring frequently to make sure everything was hot right through.Every days a School day!0

Congrats on the purchase! When you are reheating food that has been slow cooked, it's exactly the same as reheating food cooked in any other way so just reheat as you would normally. It's really not that daunting when you get used to it. I'll m erge this with quick questions on reheating later on

Son had £10 voucher from Argos so I did buy the bigger version of slow cooker - which was cheaper than teh small one I'd intended - then worried I'd made a mistake!
Hubby does his own meaty meals and son and girlfriend do their own thing - so thoguht it would be good for me as not too well and I just pop stuff in at lunchtime and its ready by teatime - I usually do it on high for 3hrs.
Ordereda cook book from Amazon but not relaly basic stuff I wanted -so will enjoy reading al the above threads.

I was given a one person slow cooker for Christmas a couple of years ago, eventually, as I got more into using it, I found it wasn't big enough. If you're putting it on anyway, it might as well be enough to do a couple of meals, so I bought a bigger one. That way, you can also cook the odd chicken or joint of meat too! Always go for bigger than you need!:D0
