Hi John,
I add red lentils straight from the pack and do the same with barley (although I knowsome people prefer to soak it first) but I think chickpeas would need to be boiled beforehand.

I'm sure there's an answer to this somewhere but there are SO many threads i can't find anything!
Can someone please point me towards an easy SC bolognese recipe? The one time i tried to make it i ended up with about ½" of grease and liquid on top of the bolognese, and it tasted rubbish. And do you HAVE to brown the meat first? I like to keep things simple (i.e. I'm v lazy...)
Thanks!Sum quod sum.0 -

This one may be OK..I dunno, cos i cheat..i cook mince, onion, garlic in tinned tomatoes/water,then add an Asda packet mix nearer the end.or sometimes i just add mixed herbs with tinned tomatoes and garlic and call it bolognese anyway.!

The only way to really ensure you don't get a layer of grease on the surface is to fry the meat gently first, which has two purposes, to cook out any fat and to brown it. Also only use lean minced steak, a bit more expensive but better than the gritty tasting cheap stuff. Mr A, and no doubt other supermarkets, have the fat content on the label of their prepacked mince so you know which is the best.0 -
I have a question, I hope you don't mind me posting here.
Today I would love to surprise my OH, who always cooks.
I have Chicken, carrots, mushrooms, green beans and would like to make some sort of hot pot type thing.
I was just wondering how about doing this. Do I make gravy and add to the chicken or just water in the SC?
It's my first attempt ever (as if you can't tell)
Any suggestions to help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Rather than water add some stock...either a cube or any you have in the freezer. Otherwise a thinnish gravy made with chicken granules would do at a pinch. If I have to use granules I don't add salt as it makes it too salty. Just my preference though.0 -

Thank you
I only just found this, but it makes me feel a little more confident as I added gravy, although maybe it should have been slightly thinner.
It smells good so far, just waiting for the shocked face on the OH when he gets home!0 -

Let us know how it went, I'm sure he was over the moon with his chicken casserole0
