Is it okay to put a slow cooker on a normal dining table? Or will it melt the table/set my kitchen on fire?Dogs and Cats are better than kids because they eat less, don't ask for money... and if they get pregnant, you can sell their children!0

In my experience the worktop becomes a little bit warm so I'd be a little wary of sitting a sc directly on a dining table without some kind of heat protector. Maybe use some of those silicone mats till you see what your sc is like?0 -

That's what I was worried about. I'll have to look for a silicone mat, I don't have any room on the work tops in the kitchen to put it on.
Would those glass thingies work as well? The glass thingies that are usually with cutting boards and sometimes have patterns on?

I have one stood on my pine kitchen table and it seems to be okay. I would think if you put a couple of table mats under it should be okay.Second purse £101/100

Hi
Just eyeing up a nice shiny slow cooker - morphy richards one reduced to £19 in argos. What I'm wondering though, is how hot the outside of it gets? Does anyone have one of these, or a similar one?
Reason I ask is I have a kitten who is still at the worktop surfing stage (I'm working on the training!) so I don't fancy coming home to find a cat with burnt paws.0 -
Hi scotsgirl
The sides are quite warm to the touch....it wouldn't give you a bad burn but you'd recoil if you touched it. I doubt your kitten would put her paws on the sides.
I'll add this to the slow cooker quick questions thread once you've had more replies as your question may help others.

He he, you haven't met my kitten - he's rather thick! He's already had arguments with the cooker, I caught him just as he was sticking his nose in a boiling and bubbling pan! Open plan kitchen - not good!
Thanks for replying!0 -
My slow cooker gets too hot to touch for more than a few seconds. However, I imagine you might find your kitten snuggled up beside it rather than singed!0

I had a Morphy Richards. Gave it away because it never seemed to get hot enough. For instance, things that should have cooked in 4 hours would take 8 and even then still be tough. Had another one (can't remember the make). Same problem.
My mother has one that's 25 years old and it works a treat but she won't part with it!"Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
Hi, I hope this is the right place to post this question, but can anyone recommend a good Slow Cooker please. We're a family of four - two hungry boys aged 9 and 14 and two adults.
I look forward to reading back through this thread for recipe ideas, etc, but wondered which slow cooker was a good one to get started? Thanks. :TBig thanks to Martin Lewis for helping us start to sort out our finances!!!:A
