Preparing for winter II

last year I put bubble wrap on my little toilet windows. It worked brilliantly and want to do something similar on the bay window in my bedroom. the only snag is it's on the main road and obviously would be an eye saw and make me the centre of small minded gossip.
Is there anything on the market that does the same thing but doesn't look like bubble wrap on the windows?
Curtains I hear you yell. I would love too but landlord will not allow us to drill to put up a pole.
Any help would be appreciated0 -
Oh Red Doe, I'm so relieved for you!0

Huge thanks to those keeping their fingers crossed for me....it worked! *does happy wee dance*
Got a phone call from Scottish Fuels, apparently under 'new rules' (I didn't ask...) it will be harder for folks to pay by installments but I think the fact there is a disabled person in the household helped, so I'm to be allowed to pay monthly which means, yay, we will have heating this winter!
Can't begin to tell ye what a difference that'll make...last winter we were sodamn cold....
Yessssss Red Doe, well done you. I am chuffed to rocks for you! This is going to make you more comfortable and be able to bear this winter. :jI am so genuinely very, very pleased.
What a result :TCat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Yay Red Doe! What good news. I had no central heating last winter and spent loads on electric heating and still felt cold - and I'm in East Anglia! All fixed this year - mind you it seems to be summer again now
Fuddle - could you buy/make a screen or use a garment rail raised to its fullest height as a pole?"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Last two years I was snowed in for weeks at a time.
Not to mention even without snow, ice on the roads meaning I had no transport, or gales meaning we couldn't safely go out of doors, plus add in minus 24 temperatures, and ill health, and well, isn't rocket science to see why so many of us do stock up when we can.
ETA also had frequent and prolonged power cuts.
In 2009 it was two weeks and in 2010 it was three weeks snowed in for us. We managed, but as I said previously Red Doe, minus 14 and I just cannot comprehend minus 24, which is what you had and the length of your snow confinement was just horrifying. The only things that were moving in our village (well technically it is a hamlet if you want to be exact) is the tractor and 4X4's. That was it, single track lanes. I dread to think for you. Oh but just think you will be more sustainable this time! :TCat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Hi
Been lurking for last few weeks
Congratulations Red Doe that's great news - I've been hoping that the oil company would see sense and they have.
Slippers washed
Fleeces in for bedroom curtains - just need to cut and sew them onto my curtains. Brought 4 metres of velcro strip to put onto my long curtains so that they can be 'pinned' up so they don't block the heat from the radiators (when I eventually turn my heating on).
I've just put bubble wrap on the small window above the front door.
I got a lovely brushed cotton fitted sheet from Mr T for 8 quid (sorry no pound sign on my computer)
To do:
Put up door curtain rail and door curtain
Get fleeces for lounge window
Stitch fleeces to bedroom & lounge windows & velcro strips
Happy prepping x0 -
