Red Doe I'm so pleased for you. Does that mean that you won't be flitting round us all this winter?
Haven't caught up with the thread yet, but had to say how pleased (relieved) I am for you.0 -
Hi everyone, can I join in pls? Been lurking for a while now reading and taking on all the great ideas posted here.
Just invested in a door curtain (£10 in discount uk) and a pole. Bought an expanding one like a shower pole. Put it up at door, went to put up the curtain only to discover I need rings and hooks! Found some old shower curtain hooks, threaded them through and used them instead lol.
Have spent the last two days lifting my laminate flooring, putting down proper laminate underlay (deftning I think its called) and re-laying the laminate in hope of making things warmer. Hard work but hopefully worth it.
Had some underlay left so am now rolling it into sausage shapes and pulling old tights over the top...hey presto...draught excluders!!
Thanks for all the great advice and keep it coming. Great for a novice like me. And congrats to Red Doe. Im in Scotland too and last year was a nightmare.

Thanks. Been using my babasling for hip carries but its just not practical when we're both kitted up in big coats! That, and he's too heavy really for me to do that for too long, wasn't the best investment!
Unfortunately we don't have £80+ spare for a decent rucksack carrier, still keeping my eye on nearly new sales and gumtree in hope though as I've used a borrowed one for a holiday and it was pretty comfy.
Not a plug, but Netmums often have good baby stuff for sale, just click through to the site for your area. HTH:jMoney saving eco friendly Fertility reflexology specialist :j0 -

Now you can use some of your space blanket to cover some cardboard and stick it down the back of your radiators so that the heat is reflected into your room and not out through the wall.
I too find it obscene that so many people are in fuel poverty. I don't know how the shareholders of the fuel companies sleep at night, knowing that their wealth is provided by others' suffering.Aspire not to have more but to be more.

Red Doe: very good news for you. It must be a real weight off your mind. I've often wondered how you all manage in the Highlands over the winter. It's bad enough at the edge of a big city! I worry terribly about certain family members who are unable to work and unable to afford adequate heating in the winter months and this is one of the reasons why I'm trying to cut back on my own outgoings.
It's a local holiday today and I met up with a friend to do some shopping. I now have winter gloves sorted for my mother and I (we have small hands and it's surprisingly difficult to find suitable ones), and a mug to take for the train to work. I've been looking for a winter coat but am struggling to find one in shops and therefore I'm hesitant to try online stores not having the time to send things back. It must be something about the way the ones I've tried are cut - the ones in my size are too tight across the chest and the next size up is far too big!0 -
Eek! I just had to share this with you because I have managed to buy the most fantastic wellies using this code. (Sad, I know, but I have painful feet but need to walk miles every week so good footwear is important).
The code is JAVABOX6
and was originally posted here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/47152009#Comment_47152009
so it might be nice if you use the code, to go to the original poster's post and 'thank' him/her.
The code works on sale items too
Hope this helps some of you who are looking for winter boots.Aspire not to have more but to be more.

its a great feeling isn't it to know that preps are done and we're all ready to deal with whatever winter throws at us! Still not looking forward to it though - this was me for 3 weeks at a stretch last year ...... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
