Huge thanks to those keeping their fingers crossed for me....it worked! *does happy wee dance* :D
Got a phone call from Scottish Fuels, apparently under 'new rules' (I didn't ask...) it will be harder for folks to pay by installments but I think the fact there is a disabled person in the household helped, so I'm to be allowed to pay monthly which means, yay, we will have heating this winter! :D
Can't begin to tell ye what a difference that'll make...last winter we were sodamn cold....

:j:jYay Red Doe that is such fantastic news! I'm absolutely over the moon for you.:j:j:j

I had some good news too. My heating (a particular type of skirting board radiator) hasn't done the job since it was installed 3 years ago. My heart has been broken trying to get it sorted. Countless visits, even paid extra - it still looked awful but worse, didn't heat up and I was trying to use the open fire and an electric heater to manage - expensive and not really warm enough as they were only in one room. Anyway, by some miracle I rang today and for once they actually returned my call for once and since they were in the area came to sort it. I won't know till it's cold if it's actually going to give out the right amount of heat but at least this time it was hot to the touch so that is progress! I am just so happy! :j:j

    And Nuala too!:j:j

A day of good news:D (sorry if I've missed more, not caught up on all the posts yet but was so excited about Red Doe's news)....

In April of this year I was so worried by the high price of heating oil in our area and by the significant variations between the companies which my office discovered (a number of which were ultimately under the same ownership) that I wrote to the Chief Executive of the Office For Fair Trading urging him to conduct an investigation into the regional markets of heating oil and to take action. The results of this investigation and its recommendations will be published next month and I am hoping this will provide some relief for people in the Far North before the winter. I will let you know what they are.

I'd be interested to hear of the results when they come out.

    Hi peeps

just managed to find an hour or so to catch up, i`ve just got to say a Huge YAY! to you Red Doe :j:j:j:beer: fantastic news.

I mentioned your situation to a colleague who was absolutely gobsmacked, she doesn`t read on here and seems to take quite a lot for granted so was very shocked to learn of your struggle. Hopefully things will improve for many more people too.

I remember reading last year that people could not even know how much they had to pay for oil until on the day of delivery (the price was fluctuating that much) as the oil companies were holding their customers to ransome!! I just find that kind of behaviour utterly disgusting. It's at times like these that you wish karma to come back on them big time. We are on calorgas, but that is soon to go as contract ends next year! Too many problems with all of them, but thats what happens when you are off the main grid!

Although I cleaned the windows again today, it is still on my jobs to do list, the reason being is that we had all the work done and they looked like a sandstorm, so by the end of October the windows will need cleaning again. I have checked and rechecked the horses feed and I have enough to last me until February. With more than enough straw and hay and hayledge to get me to April/May. Once the bad frosts start to hit then I will get the outside tap drained and covered over and put the flannelette sheets on the bed. Apart from that it's odd diddly jobs that can be done inside. All the outside stuff is done.
Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money :D

The last time i started a thread on the old style board about adopting a child on a budget i was criticised for considering bringing a child up in poverty

I don't know why you should be criticised for that - isn't it what most of us are doing? Unfortunately there are some horrible people around. Best thing is to ignore them and they will wither away.
  • way to go Red doe- you'll be all cosy when your upto your a**e in snow!
