Last week I got 60 AA batteries from B&M for £2.49. They are green and are called Optimum. Have only used them in poundland lanterns, they are still quite bright though. Thought they would also do for kids xmas presents, you can never have too many batteries. :D

You've inspired me with tales of Yaktrax - the last couple of winters with packed ice across all the roads and pavements made me miserable, since I cycle to work in hilly Bristol and hated trying to get about on the slippery frozen deathtraps!

I found that the large size black ones came up as only £10 on amazon (here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yaktrax-Walker-Traction-Device-Large/dp/B003ZTONHE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1315863057&sr=8-1). I have size 9 clown feet so they should hopefully fit me - the suggested sizes are 6-9 for medium and 9-12 for large so fingers crossed I'll be okay in the overlap.

I really hope they work if we get more bad weather this year!

I'm looking forward to trying my Yaktrax out too but not really looking forward to the bad weather. It will be fun to walk at normal speed thru the snow whilst everyone else is taking baby steps... Am I cruel? :D

Wind has died down a lot here today. and its bright and sunny.

Question re that window film stuff - I have bought it before and it was great, but the one I have put up in the kitchen goes wrinkly after half a day or so. I have had to use the hairdryer on it daily... How annoying... Its not happened to me before... Anyone else?

Not sure what winter prepping I will do today - probably just a good tidy up inside and put the garden furniture in the shed - didn't get around to doing that yesterday!

Why am I stocking up on toilet rolls?

I remember being prodded to stock up, other than the odd pack or two I always keep in reserve, but I can't for the life of me remember why.

in case the roads get really bad and you can't get to the shop and/or in case it gets really bad weather and people panic buy so when you DO manage to get to the shops there isn't any left!

also, do you REALLY want to race out to the shops on an emergency toilet run in bad weather? ;)

also prices on basics like this have been rising steadily, not like you're not going to use them so buying now is an investment of sorts, the rolls i've bought have gone up from £1.29 to £1.69 in a few months and seem to go up each time i go back for more!

Today I've cut down my kingsize 13.5 tog duvet to a single. That's for me :D I'll get DH his own on payday - we have single duvets on the bed as I HATE! sharing :D

I've also cut down a couple of old single duvets to be made into mattress toppers for the single beds so there's no overhang.

That reminded me of my DGD who says 'a girl can never have too many shoes, can she Grandma?' Clever girl!!

Thanks for the heads up kat. Your deal may be a lot better than today's Groupon one, they're offering 250 AA Kod@k batteries for £25. They say they're intended for heavy use item, ie cameras, when I looked into it I discovered they're from a recycling/remarketing company. I'm wondering if they're refills, part-used or similar, so think I'll stick with the local shop deals.
  • Slow again today, but still making progress.

Finished straining stock and got it in freezer. Froze two meals worth of cooked chicken, accepted supermarket order and got most of it put away (not sure where to put the rest:rotfl:). This afternoon its errands, working on sewing hot water bottle covers (made progress last night but still more to do) and then making eggplant parmesan and brownies for dinner. Extra EP will be in freezer:T.

Grand total of freezer options by end of today:

    Beef stew x2
    Stock x5
cooked chickenx 2 (for bakes etc.)
    meatballs x31 (3 meals)
    Eggplant Parmesanx4
    Gravy x1

I estimate that makes an easy 8 dinners for OH and I, plus stock for soups. I was hoping for 10, as there are 10 weeks of term, but I guess there is still whatever I make for dinner on Weds and Thurs, can probably manage another one that way.

Also have ingredients for chilli, black beans, and lentils in cupboard.
  • Kirsty your cushions etc are fabulous -well done for being so creative - and thank you for saying it was a remnant from Dunelm - there is a Dunelm here but i didnt know they did remnants - will have to have a rummage. It might just be the answer to a problem!!!!
