Know what you mean about not putting curtains up without the linings - I've washed the winter curtains but have yet to attach fleece and put them up.

It's mad Jamanda! I also just thought about putting the heating on. Even though it's Aug in the past I wouldn't have thought twice about it but tonight I was good and went and got another long sleeved top instead.

    Right

I have my eyes set on a nice pair of hiking boots that will get their wear this winter....being that Im now up the top of a valley and my work and local shop is at the bottom - as is the school :(

Anyway I was wondering because there is a good chance of snow and rain in wales this winter, what do you all think of these?

As a few others have said these are just the gaiters. I have some fairly low priced Karrimor boots (I got mine second hand but you can often pick them up in Sports Direct or camping places) and I have found 'branded' walking boots so much better than off brand ones. I find the cheapo ones rub like mad and have poor padding.

If you have small enough feet have a look at kids ones. I have these http://www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-boulder-junior-walking-boots-094109?src=google

Just a quickie question really with things like new slippers, nightwear and flannelette sheets are you using them straight away or are you kind of 'putting them away' for when the weather does actually turn. I have my new slippers still in the bag that I got from Next in the botton of my wardrobe and I have resisted using them until probably the first week of October! Just a kind of thing in my mind, you know like switching the heating on and the nights sdrawing in etc. Then getting all the winter stuff out to start using them.

It's certaintly much, much colder tonight. Just closed the windows which I have been leaving open until it got dark and had to put a jumper on first time in ages. If it continues like this it is going to be a long winter.

This thread is really busy, comforting to know that so many people are going to be well prepared. Mentioned to my parents today that they need to start preparing for winter so mum is ordering the craghoppers trousers.

Have a lovely evening everyone - we are just chillin'

I have both indoor boots and summer slippers, in the morning I just slip my feet into whichever takes my fancy. I will probably put winter duvets, fleeces on beds etc as soon we start to feel the chill, which may be tomorrow it is so much colder this evening! but likely to be first week in October. We always have fleeces in the family room, in a wicker basket, and the children just get one when they want and snuggle down to watch telly (usually when we are having a late night) Trying to hold off using all the winter stuff - otherwise it seems to last forever.

i've used my new slippers a few times, no choice really most of my socks seem to have gone awol and my other slippers were utterly totally dead, we took to calling the ex slippers when the foam padding started coming off in clumps :rotfl:

i've saved one pair of flannel pj's til christmas, well hopefully we'll see how it is, i've got four pairs now so i'm hoping i can hold out til then. my daughter always gets new pj's for christmas eve and i thought it might be nice to have my own nice new pair for christmas morning too.

haven't put the sheets on yet been to warm some nights, i did put a fleece on the other night but it was an old one

I put the heating on for an hour as it has rained persistently all day and the house was feeling very chilly and damp. It feels much warmer and cosier now. I will be thinking about bringing in my Guinea Pigs if this wet and cold weather continues. They are really in door pigs and only spend a few months outside.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

We've had at least an inch of rain this afternoon going by what has collected in the bucket. However, we do have a beautiful rainbow atm. :)

I can't put the heating on, as much as I'd like to. We ran out of oil and got a lockout, so although we've now got oil, I need hubby to sort out the lockout button on the boiler (I'm not sure where it is) and see if we need to get our boiler man around to clear the pump. Luckily, if the pump is blocked with sludge and we need the boiler man, it only costs about a tenner as it's a quick job.

Ah, the joys of living off the (gas) grid!

Got my Approved food order today, so lots of flavoured cousous and spelt packets, Lockets and cherry menthol sweets, 3 tins of new potatoes and syrup sponge puddings to add to the storecupboard.
It's my first order and apart from the hiccup with delivery, I'm very impressed with the service.
