Thanks folks. I keep being told to use a keyboard install disk :(.. will have to find where the character map is..

found this thought it might be helpful

    http://www.nouilles.info/keyboard_shortcuts.html

Alt+0163 is shortcut for the £ sign i'm assuming you don't have windows 7? if you do you can simply find the character map by typing in character for search, comes right up.

Kathy - another late "welcome" to you! I'm from the states originally, having grown up a fair number of years in Minnesota (or as locally known there Minne-snow-ta :rotfl:) as well as a few years in (Down East) Maine, by the Canadian border. Having lived within a easy drive's distance from an LL Bean store, I can say that I do miss them. I haven't actually tried to order stuff here in the UK from them though.

Triggles-- are you American then? By birth? or did you just live over here for a bit? So you understand how the snow is here them.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! Such lovely people! I'm enjoying all your posts, ideas and tips.

Just got this one from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-GT30-Square-Mouth-Shovel/dp/B000LFU08Q/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_2 - metal head and not too heavy. I've struggled with the garden space for the past couple of years for the same reasons as you but it was just overwhelmed with the volume of snow last year!

Tonight popped out to Dunelm and picked up four balls of Aran wool whihc will go beautifully with a red bag I have bought from Next. I am going to knit it into a scarf for me. First time in 17 years I will have knitted something but I am giving it a go :) Dunelm also have fleeces in the sale as well including some really nice one for children polka dots they are gorgeous!

I also bought the Comma extreme screen wash that one that goes down to -65 degrees. The Focus - my car - is always in the garage when it is not being driven but the Land Rover does sit on the driveway and we had a problem last year that the screen wash kept freezing so this will solve the roblem

Thanks to all who recommended it - you lot are costing me a little more but we will be absolutely prepared out this year more so than ever, from last year :T also we are looking at winter tyres on the Land Rover but we are keeping an eye on that!

This may work until you get it fixed ....

Go into word and insert, symbol and choose the £ sign.

Set up a macro (used to be tools / macro in the "old" word but under view / macro in 2007+) and assign it to a key on your keyboard (obviously something that you don't use often, maybe something like ~).

Read this and the comments section the last but one is a person from Galsgow who has summed it up well, they believe we are in for a harsh winter and with the early Autumn they believe it is the trees shutting down and conserving stock/sugar to help them get through a nasty winter.

I went back to work today after the summer break. We went on a tour round the building to look at imrpovement which had been made to the outside area. I was surprised at how many of the trees were turning colour.
