  • So my sig says to stock up on medicines, pet stuff (cat litter became scarce as people used it to clear paths) and thermals. So tomorrow, off to the shops to:

    - buy cold remedies, syrups and stuff
    - pick up some pet food (find a place to store spare pet food in the house)
    - check what thermals we have, especially for dog walking before going out and buying any more. :A

Right topped up some cold remedies, painkillers etc. Still need to top up the pet food and that. Checked thermals - want to get another pair of longjohns for my loved one - not been able to get his size yet so that stays on the list. Off to update my sig with next tasks!
    I need to:
Get another gas bottle for the camping stove & lamp. (Emergencies)
KB - what a good idea. We have a BBQ and I suppose if the worst happens we could always use that, like that TV advert.

dont forget to stockpile cat food and cat litter and any medications the cat needs.
Also human stuff like Cold cures, asprin etc as well as soap, paper tissues and loo roll.
Yes it's all that heavy stuff for me (like the litter and cat food) that needs to be sorted. Don't know where to store loo roll. Will find somewhere!

We have a thick door curtain that I got a few years ago. They do make a lot of difference.

To the poster who has the fireplace in a flat but not sure if they can use it, perhaps ask your landlord and/or get it checked out by a chimney sweep - they can test the draw and that with smoke things. Need to be careful to make sure it's still useable. Best of luck, hope it is ok!:A

Love this thread. And don't forget about mentioning this to friends, family and neighbours. :)

  • ive had this problem too,so i just folded up and sewed curtain to right length ,rather than cutting it,so its kind of double thickness at bottom edge, means i can do away with draught excluder sausage dog at front door as door curtain now thick enough to stop a tornado!!

Oh thats a good idea not very good at sewing though so I got some of that tape stuff :)

Well I've finally caught up with this new thread. Its taken me a while, but I'm going to do my best to keep up from now on. ;)

I've had a major job done this past week - I now have central heating :j:j Still juggling the settings so that I can make it work the best for us, and I think I need to move the thermostat as it keeps cutting out while upstairs is still too cold. Its wireless so shouldn't be a problem.

However today the winter quilts are coming out to go on the bed, and onto the back of the sofa. I don't plan on having a massive gas bill ;):rotfl:

Asda have fleeces for £2 - brown, cream or red (in my local store anyway) and Primark have a pack of 2 in various colours for £4.

I saw someone mention the Primark thermals too at £6 but they're only £5 here so it must vary between stores....or they've priced this lot wrong. :D

think i need to read through this all, by having a quick glance through i seem very unprepared, im in a ground floor flat (one above me) have double glazing so i should already do better than last year heat wise, however the front room has a fireplace its not been blocked or filled in anyway (landlord wont block it up as its good ventilation) how can i stop drafts ? i wanted to turn into some sort of open fire but no idea of costs or what is needed (its basically the surround mantle and well a space lol )

off top of my head i need to stock medicine box and get ds a spare of each inhaler for the back of the cupboard, stock up on medicines for the little ones)
wash all our fleeces we have 2 each, 2 for the sofa the boys also have a fleece sleeping bag each) the kitten has 1 for his bed
source 3 hot water bottles for the boys don't have a microwave so cannot buy the bean type
just brought hats gloves and scarfs but ds3 needs a new winter coat (has to be thomas though)
find a kettle to use on the gas cooker incase of power cut though a saucepan would surface if needed
4 pairs of wellingtons i have yet to see many in the shops locally
    2 need slippers
stock up on some tinned food don't have much storage space in cupboards so need to find somewhere to store (any suggestions)
salt and shovel in case of snow, need to keep enough to help my neighbour she is a lovely old lady but struggling to stay mobile

i have already sorted us all waterproof trousers so we can continue walking to school in the rain, i refuse to catch the bus for 4 stops (about a mile and a half)
have a stock of tea lights and candles
    all windows now have curtains
don't think there is much i can do with the front door as its upvc don't have a back door to worry about nor loft etc to worry about insulating

im sure more will come to me as i read through this
asda have great boys wellies in from £5 if i remember rightly(dont take kids with u tho as they may persuade u to buy the ben10 ones at £12 like my son did:mad:)

I went to Dunelm but it was near impossible to look properly with my hyperactive 7 year old son. :o I am going back tomorrow to have a proper look for the long length curtains. There were lots of reduced stuff,

I've just bought flannel sheets and pillowslips from Dunelm online..1 flat kingsize sheet to go under the duvet, a fitted sheet to go on top of the summer duvet and mattress and 4 pillowslips.
