i am chuffed to bits! i spent hours last night checking out tesco, asda, bhs, marks, debenhams etc trying to find a decent winter coat for my nearly 10 year old (she's tall as a nearly 13 year old ) i found coats at all of them but none of them were very long and her legs always get soooo cold despite wearing multiple layers of leggings so i had a look on ebay.
Again, same problem had a devil of a time finding a LONG coat when the thought occured to me to check out womens coats rather than girls. i did a quick size conversion check on google to confirm my suspicions, a womans size 6 is approx the same as a girls 13-14 and a size 8 is approx the same size as a girls 14-16, the sleeves might be a tad long on the ladies but the sizes are comparable (and i always buy larger for her anyway she's used to it) with this knowledge in hand i had a good long look through the womans coats. This turned up a US size 2 coat (again looked up another conversion chart!) and this is equivalent to a size 4 UK. Now i wasn't too sure about that one as i like to buy them a bit big but it had the measurements across the shoulder, arm length and shoulder to hem length and it should be a really lovely fit! because it's such a small size in the womans section i was the only bidder! i got the full length suede coat for just £13.99 inlcuding the postage and i'm thrilled!
i'll have to tack on another fiver or so for some suede protector but for less than £20 my daughter will have a very warm, very fashionable coat and i suspect it will still fit her next year too (unless she suddenly develops REALLY broad shoulders) the closest thing i'd found at the shops mentioned above that was remotely suitable was a £20 quid duffle coat at asda in colours she doesn't care for so i think i did quite well here!
also all your talk on here about getting a thermos flasks made me remember that i was able to pick one up for just a quid at our local tea room last month (forgot to put that on my done list!) it's quite nice actually it looks like a chunky jug with a handle and a pouring spout. our tea room, aside from having the best brownies and cream tea ever, also always has a section with used things for sale for just a quid. so far i've brought home that thermos, 2 different really heavy duty large mixing bowls and some candle holders. i'm starting to think eating there actually SAVES me money as every time we go those shelves seem to have something i've been needing but have put off buying til i could get it at a good price... or maybe my good shopping karma is with me when i go there0 -
Bramble - Not sure about Lidl, but Mr T have a 6 pack on offer for £3. Mr M recently had these 6 packs in at £2 and I was lucky enough to get one then. I'll be checking the offers regularly as I'm building the stores up. Might be worth holding off until a better offer comes along. Will keep checking MySupermarket!
Mum's given me some beans from her garden which I'll prep and freeze for winter, otherwise have added another can of soup to the collection. One tin at a time!

Hi folks, I`ve not posted for a year or so but still been reading OS regularly. (I love the `my home is a mess` board, as that`s a great comfort to read!) I have this huge WILD garden, as well as a Messy House and my menfolk aren`t much concerned about either, and as I work full-time, long shifts, it takes most of my time and energy to deal with shopping/cooking/laundry essentials.
I DO get a bit downhearted sometimes. NOW, I`m buzzing with delight!
DD`s partner has been laid off at his job, and I`d be helping them out anyway, but it seemed like a good idea to ask him to do some stuff that is beyond my menfolk here at home, and pay him rather than just take DD shopping and subsidise their food bills, etc. It suits us all.
I now have a brilliant Log Shelter, which he made from free pallets (from my veg man)and an old tarpaulin, and it`s now FULL of logs (delivered yesterday.) My log man was impressed. So was the Chimney Sweep, He came yesterday too. DD`s partner is now working on a `Decking` arrangement - also mostly from pallets - that`ll keep a lot of wild garden issues at bay for the main patch I use, and will reduce the cost of garden maintenance considerably. Probably won`t reap the real benefits of this till next year, but Hey! How good are we? Preparing for Winter AND next Summer too!
My Summer Holiday isn`t till September, but I feel SO good about this bit of getting ready for winter. After my holiday I can just concentrate on Christmas0 -
My B and M is selling a pack of 4 Branston backed beans for 99p for those who missed the Lidl offer might be worth a check there0

The baked bean offer will crop up again I am sure - we just need to be more vigilant next time
I still have two packs in my garage from the last offer so I am not exactly short!
I need to get those brushed cotton sheets washed as a next job. We are off to Cornwall in September so I shall have a wander round Trago Mills and see what they have on. If theirs is still not on a par with Dunelm then I shall buy another pack of those sheets that I bought yesterday. It just spaces the cost implications of it out. £70.00 in one go on sheets is a bit much.
House is like a ruddy launderette again today. I also put some more lavender in the wardrobes this morning as a moth was seen in the bedroom.
I am also going to keep my eye out for when Trago and Dunelm reduce their summer quilts down in price and I shall buy one up then ready for summer next year!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:
