Is there anything that i could attach to my buggy wheels to help when pushing in the snow. In previous years they have tended to get clogged up. Just wondered as someone mentioned tyre chains. I will be doing a lot of walking with the buggy so just wondered or is it a little OTT?

in snowier climes in the states like montana and minnesota as well as alaska it's quite normal to drive with chains on ones snow tyres, also quite the norm in scandanavian countries from what i've heard.

if there is enough clearance between the fittings for the wheels to allow for chains i suppose you could buy some lengths of inexpensive linked chain from b&q or such like and fashion it in a way that it will stay put. in theory the extra purchase gained by the chains being there should help you out, i do wonder about HOW you'd fit them and if there would be enough clearance between where the tyres are attached to the pram but perhaps if you googled snow tyres and chains perhaps in image search you may be inspired...

perhaps a different idea would be to buy a sledge you could pull the wee one in, some even have a seat of sorts in them, put a longish cord with knots at different spots (grab a lower knot for harder climbs, higher knot for walking on stable ground) and just pull the wee one along, i bet you could even fashion a seat belt for it! i know someone said they use a sledge to pull their groceries home!

i have just had a look at the pushchair and there would be quite a bit of space for the chains. Think that i could perhaps thread the chain through the holes in the main part of the wheel. Just need a way to attach them. Can just imagine the other mums up the school thinking that i had gone mad

    Hi,
Always read. Last year I got organised for winter and this year it is much easier as I have a lot of the stuff still in good order. The snow kit is in the bottom of the wardrobe and just needs edibles replenishing, I still have half a box of hand warmers left (Costco), grippers (Costco again) and my flannelette sheets are still warm and fluffy. We have converted to a fixed rate tariff for gas/ electricity which will save us money as no heating is not an option for me (disabled). I have already got good supplies of tinned and dried foods except for pasta which I shall get soon (from Costco again). I will need to buy the boys some gloves but that is about the only thing on my list so far. So it does pay to get organised early not only for this winter but for winters to come x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Have just seen this on Youtube which looks interesting, though when the snow starts melting and there are bits of hard ground left it could be rather heavy work. Chains sound a good idea.

I've been looking around the charity shops today for winter clothing (as well as some new office stuff and perhaps a dress for the Christmas Party) but couldn't really find anything! Lots of skirts, but I don't find those practical in winter for me - even though they're warmer as you can wear more underneath! Loads of summery dresses though (sigh).

    Car check list:

    Screen wash
Check tyres are in good condition
    Change wiper blades
    Check first aid kit OK
Check fleece blanket OK (practice getting to it from inside the car - it is in the boot but should be easily available by detaching the parcel shelf straps.)
    Tyre pressure checks (ongoing)
    Fluid checks (ongoing)
    Sort out any problems!

thanks for that it looks great kind of sledge / pushchair. I am determind not to let my customers down because of bad weather. I am slowly gaining their trust so dont want to let them down even though they would probably understand.

I'm resisting the temptation to call it a slushchair (sledge+pushchair ;) ) Most people are understanding given the weather, but if you make the effort against the odds, people remember that. Might even recommend you. :)

Forgot to say I'm making a huge batch of sausage chilli tonight so some can be frozen for winter. Things that can be heated really quickly are a bonus to the frozen-fingered impatient family!

Does anyone know if Primark stock the fleecy PJs all year round or is it just at Winter time?

I've been looking at ideas for my winter wardrobe, looks like it will consist mainly of skinny jeans (easy to tuck into wellies/boots so will stay dry) and long jumpers or tops with cardi's.

I'd say that 50% of my Xmas shopping has been done so hopefully the snow won't cause too many issues. Christmas party dress also purchased (a steal at £5 from eBay)

love the name slushchair! Sausage chilli also sounds great - is there a recipe somewhere on here?

I am hoping to make a good inpression on customers as so many of their previous sellers have been and gone and left without notice - i just want to prove that were not all the same. I am now starting to win them over

No, no recipe. I'm just using a packet sauce mix (cheating I know... ;) ) with sliced sausages, about 2 inches of diced chorizo, a chopped red pepper, onion and some sliced mushrooms. I'll add a tin of beans to it and a tin of chopped tomatoes and if it needs further seasoning will add paprika and cumin with a bit of chilli powder until it needs it. We have chilli with chips, so I'll do some sauteed potatoes for tonight and freeze the rest. I don't think I've got a big enough pan! There might be a recipe for it in the index though, as I think it would work very well indeed in the slow cooker. :)
