Just bought another candlewick bedspread from my secret cs. Sadly this time I got charged 1.50 as they classed it as a bedspread - last time I got charged 1 quid for a blanket..thin but will do as a rotating throw/extra blanket etc..tend to get too hot when i use blankets so this is like a happy medium between no blankie and blankieWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

:wave:Welcome all newbies. If it's any help I find that once you get stocked up it's a lot cheaper over the following winters. I still have tins of soup, washing machine salt, candles etc that weren't used last winter, just check your stock and buy as you see them on offer
I got a single 4.5 tog quilt at Wilkinson's yesterday, find them more snuggly to use as throws when it's really cold, extra layer on bed, over knees when on pc etc. I suppose that you could even keep one rolled up in the car, or is that going too far? I tend to get carried away...:o:) Edited to add cost of £4.50.
Quick note on airers, I hang any tops, shirts etc on hangers then onto the airer. They dry quicker, saves space on the airer and you don't usually have to iron them,:):) and you know that if you are desperate you can hang them at an open window on your curtain poles don't you? Doesn't look good but I only use the 'back windows' and after a couple of days of rain I do get desperate!:rotfl:
BTW that blackberry vodka cough medicine sounds like a store cupboard must have!:beer:The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

just an obvious one but has everyone checked their utility supplier as Martin has said that the prices will go up soon.
I have just looked at my usage (I am one of these anoraks who read the meter every month..) and calulated that I would be better off swapping so I went through quidco and got £24 for going through confused.com after checking on a few switch sites first.
I rang my current provider to check I am not locked in, no exit fees etc and rang the new company to ask a few questions (how long is the fix and to double check the numbers).
Very pleased with the result, I will save automatically and also get 3% for remaining in credit with them, I know that my price is fixed for a year so the winter doesnt seem to bad now, I can budget accordingly.
So glad I did it, I thought I had the cheapest tarif but they are quite crafty in that they change tarifs and have lots of different, similar sounding ones to confuse. Best to double check.
Its a pain but its only taken me 1/2 hour and I'm glad I did, save some moeny and look into it! It seems that they are starting to pull the deals now...Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000
Save £12k in 2013 no.34 £11,800/£12,000
'How much can you save' thread = £7,050
Total=£29,100
Mfi3 no. 88: Balance Jan '06 = £63,000.

I read mine every Monday morning and record the results on imeasure.

And I compare this years to last years usage.
Austerity living hubby calls it, as I read the riot act if we use more than the same week last year! but needs must and all that.0 -
It would seem that pretty much most places are in agreement with one another that we are in for another pummelling of a winter on par with 2010! All are saying that records will be broken with plummeting temperatures.
What I am going to do around August time is to write a comprehensive list of everything that you need to have done or at least be getting done, it will be a big task going back through this lot, but I think with a fair wind and a bit of pre planning all of us who have made efforts will be able to get through this winter.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Last winter, with living in a wee village quite high up, no shop and never gets snow ploughed, I got a bit depressed being snowed in for ages. I was thinking of getting a light/lamp for SAD. Does anyone have an recommendations and think they'll be cheaper at this time of year when people generally (except us on this thread) aren't thinking of winter? Thanks
Oh... and on the airer subject. I got one of those half rotary airers you put on the wall. Then if it rains you can take it down and put it up inside or in the garage (if you have room somewhere). It comes with two fixing kits so you can do this. I put most of mine on two clothes horses and stick them outside if it looks like it might rain, then it's just one lift and everything is inside in the dry. I am not looking forward to having drying all over the house again once winter comes!"A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others" Barnyard the children's film.

I'm in the same situation, my OH was climbing the walls at being stuck in. I'd be interested in these lamps too I think, for him.0

Not really looking forward to venturing out this winter. We should be lovely and snug at home with fleeces, jumpers, hot water bottles etc but when we leave the house i feel we will suffer - school runs i will not look forward to - can i homeschool just in yucky weather!
You think you have it bad? Have you read The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder? Now that was really harsh. I'm a big wuss and wouldn't have survived :rotfl:0
