Where is everyone getting candles and batteries from, having visited Ikea this morning, I cant believe how much candles have increased, and would ideally like to buy more and not break the bank.
I've been stocking up on Duracell batteries when they're been BOGOF at the supermarket, Wilkinson etc (sorry, this may not be want you want to hear:o) I bet someone will be along soon with info on the candles although I know Dunelm have some of their candles in the sale.0 -

Pound shop, home bargains, wilkinsons, and wherever I see them on offer. I actually have enough candles to light Battersea. I happened to mention that I liked candles, the following birthday and wedding anniversary and christmas and ... yep, you guessed it.0 -
I always ask for candles for birthday/Christmas. Wish I had a real fire...only got an ugly 90's gas fire0

hello all!
i've been having fun juggling what nights i have the storage heaters on and what nights i don't as it's been so mild...
anyway, i've also been drying my clothes on the line, well part way then finishing them on the airer at night. but last night i forgot to go out and collect my laundry and this morning as i opened my kitchen window i was treated to the sight of all my clothes with a lovely little line of frost across their edges... i had to laugh!
here's hoping it stays relatively mild!0 -
Looks like everyone has moved to the preparing for Spring thread....:)
I bought some solar lights from Poundland today..the little ones that are meant to look like stones? It occured to me that they might be handy to keep on a window sill in winter, ready for emergency power cuts or maybe as a nightlight where you don't have electrical sockets? They would be safe for childrens rooms or bathrooms for those nocturnal visits...:o:)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Please and Thank You are the magic words;)0 -

Great idea as they are not very big.
I think I may buy some tomorrow now, thanks for the tip.0 -
I think we're all a bit more focussed on signs of Spring at the moment but I came across these ideas for Greener De-icer Tips and thought I'd share.
The article suggests using things like wood ash and coffee grounds to give a bit of traction on ice as salt is so damaging to the environment. There are lots of other ideas there too. It also advises clearing snow before it freezes so you won't have as much ice to deal with later.
AlsoFor keeping your car's windscreen free of ice, fill your windshield wiper tank with a mix of one part water and two parts vinegar and use the mix prior to leaving your vehicle for the night - this should help prevent ice build up.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

Think the forecast for the north of Scotland said 90mph winds and snow, so maybe better postpone spring0

I'm a bit surprised at myself but I think I'm jealous ... it's been long enough that I miss the snow!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

In a weird way I agree! It forces me to walk instead of drive, to cook from the cupboards and use things up, and to enjoy things like baking and making at home. We must be mad :rotfl:0
