    DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT

I knew this was going to happen :( My washing machine isn't working, same as last year when it was this cold (its outside in a brick outhouse/laundry area). I am so mad. I had meant to go out regularly and make sure it was ok but not been out there for a couple of days.

I have put the tumble dryer on in there in the hope that it will warm it up enough.... BUT now I am worried about water gushing everywhere IF the pipes are frozen and have split :(

Altho I am fairly sure its the WM rather than the pipes..... Fingers Crossed
  • forecast for a lot of sw is aborted. The front has swirled ino the irish sea. Phew, it really is seat of pants stuff for the forecasters. They must be scrabbling to get their stuff ready for the news

Oh no Frugal - I really hope it's nothing serious and once it's a bit warmer it works ok.

When I went to feed the birds this morning I found the outside tap that I had paid to have repaired only a couple of weeks ago is broken - it's discounnected at a join and is dripping. I'm hopeful that the dripping will at least stop it bursting again but I'll have to get on to the plumber again to sort it. I used to love winter but my enthusiasm is waning this year!

We seem to have escaped more snow - a light covering fell last night but I don't think we're due any more this week.

Hope everyone's ok - stay warm .... and try not to shoot the poor RV Mardatha! :rotfl:
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Hippeechiq - re the savoury rice - its probably fine to eat it yourself but if you want to feed it to the birds, rinse off all the flavouring first and cook it well, not al dente as it can swell in their little bellies and they literally burst

Oh no....what a horrible thought. I hope others like me with good intentions are aware of this. Must get my act together and do the lard thing tomorrow. I've had good intentions all weekend, but it's just flashed by in the blink of an eye. Although I have been putting out biscuit crumbs, breadcrumbs, oats and chopped up raisins and have been refreshing the water several times a day as it keeps freeziing.

Hope you managed to sort out your WM. Also, hope your Dad is making steady progress :)
Oh please santa could you find it in your heart to give me a home as pretty as this... I promise to come and sit on your knee EVERY year!
I found this photo in the snowy pics section on yahoo, it's gorgeous.

LOL yes it is a horrible thought!!! and if they don't burst, they dehydrate as the rice sucks all the moisture out of them

I must admit, I have been bad today (still ill so stayed in bed with DDs and watched TV) and i've not given them fresh water so I feel a bit bad. However, I do know of a couple of ponds very near by which will have been defrosted so they wouldn't have to go far... I will get out there tomorrow and change it for fresh warm water.

Dad is much the same i'm afraid :( Plus, because i've had this awful virus i've not been able to go and see him :( Thanks for asking :A

Great, we now have lots and lots of lovely ice!! Went over to see the OH today (who lives in a village) and the roads there were lethal. Spoke to my mum today who is still totally convinced I will be going to Lincs for Christmas. I am not so sure as there seems to be alot of difference throughout the country and I have no desire to get stuck, especially with the crazy one (the cat, she goes everywhere with me) I have tired to explain it will be a day by day decision thing but she just isn't getting it!!!

Thanks Hippiechiq, yes it is beautiful, but I'd like some snow to add to that xmassy feeling, although I do feel awful requesting the white stuff when there is so many folk up north suffering through it.
RE the lard balls for Norman and Doreen, they have not touched them, but may have something to do with the fact that Neena nanar and Jaffa our fat cats have been guarding them, so I think I will get a bird table tomorrow and put it in the back garden as Jaffa likes to sit on the shed roof so hanging from the shed will be no good either, just a shame as I wanted to watch Norman and Doreen enjoying them from the comfort of my seat in the kitchen, but will now have to relocate to the living room.

I am in the same boat redlady, I have promissed the kids and their dad that we will go up to visit him for a few days on xmas day, it's a 6 hour trip from St Ives to Derby.
A day by day weather watch for us, fingers crossed we can go or kids will be disappointed and so will daddy.....

Don't feel guilty - there are some of us who love it (me! me!) :D

We had all of three flakes today, along with our hens nose full yesterday, but tomorrow and Tuesday we have rain forecast, with a mild + 7º forecast for Christmas Day and rain Boxing day and the day after :(

As I've said before - I don't want people to become cut off/can't get to work/the country grind to a halt/old people not to be able to get around safely. But I love snow, and I think a light sprinkling over everything Christmas morning, or any morning for that matter is totally magical, and it lifts my spirits :)
