Thanks Catz ... feeling better today but was upset yesterday. All sorted now and the pipe is mended, lagged plus has an isolation valve, and is drained with the tap left open. But the plumber warned it still wasn't burst-proof going on what he's seen. I count my blessings though - I'm glad that it wasn't inside the house!

Oh thank you Marmite :A - I'll enjoy reading that.
Pleased you got the burst sorted and you're feeling better.

Often a sequence of small events overloads the emotional boat and it sinks, good to have friends to hold you up.

Keep on going forward, the alternative is pretty naff, I know I went there.

well the neighbour must have felt bad because she just rang my bell to tell me that if i wanted to get the telly that her husband would help me carry it from the main part of our road (we're a tiny offshoot off the road here with a very small 4 car parking area) i thanked her profusely and told her that if they haven't ploughed by monday i'd probably take them up on that

personally though i'd prefer not to, he's in his late 60's and while he seems fit enough i don't want to be responsible if he falls and breaks his hip or something! i did however get the chance to put my two pence worth in about how they ploughed last year and how they'll need to to collect our rubbish which she nodded agreement too so i feel vindicated at least :rotfl:

on the yay side i got my wind up torch/radio today and it's very good. the fm reception is excellent, far better than our standard radio is! it even has a headphone socket so that's nice as well.

i also go one of the candlestick holders i ordered. it's an ikea heavy glass holder, for taper candles on one side, flip it over and it's for a tealight. cost me 2 quid delivered and considering the closest ikea is in edinburgh i'd say that's a reasonable surcharge!

so a slightly less grumpy me... i hope you are all staying warm and aren't going too stir crazy!

We've still got 2ft of snow although the buses are back on today after a week off. The OH is digging out next doors coal cellar from under 4ft drifts and the icicles on my rones are dripping. But I expect they will freeze solid again soon. Very cold and horrible outside.

Almost all our snow has melted now :j

Shame for the kids, but no doubt we will get plenty more.

Is anyone else really irritated by the weather reports?

I just checked metcheck and bbc weather sites... one says snow from half an hour ago and then sleet/snow all night.... the other says rain and fog.

    Its not doing either :/

I love the weather sites but I have no idea why - they are just nice pics of pretty symbols and animated weather pics which bear no resemblence whatsoever of what is actually going on :(

i always thought a rone was a horse, maybe that's spelled roan though, can't imagine mardatha letting horses stand outside til they have icicles hanging off them :p

    according to the internet;
Roan is a coat color found in many animals, notably horses, cattle and dogs

or an Australian street artist...who isn't outside her home, along with horses who won't be there either, with icicles dangling off them :rotfl:

Economy; careful management; providence. Whether you call it thrifty or frugality it all comes down to getting more for your money.

Thanks too for the link about Laura Ingalls Wilder, Marmite. I've learned a lot about her. I used to love the series (and Michael Landon:o) it was Little Joe from Bonanza wasn't it? Now I want to watch them all again. I always used to cry for some reason, can't remember why? I haven't read the books but I'll have a look at the library next time. (New MSE resolution, STOP buying books!):T

Oh,you must read the books,it's really worth it.

There was a lot of artistic licence in the TV series. The only example I can think just now is that in the TV series,Mary got married,if I remember rightly. This didn't really happen.

As a child, with my sister and her friend,we used to act out scenes from Little House. There was a hill by the house, and we used to run down it,as they did as the ending credits played.Because I was the smallest one,I always had to fall down,as Carrie did at the end.It never seemed fair that it was always me!

I loved Little House, but haven't seen it in ages.
