Doh, I can't think of the name of the film but it wasn't very good. It was a made for TV film and it wasn't as good as the TV series. But I am a sucker for anything like that so watched it anyway! If I think of it I will tell you but since you are familiar with the books I think you would be sorely disappointed!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

I love that whole series of books. What a difficult life they had. It wasn't always as happy as she makes out in her books though - the really harsh bits were left out. Apparently her husband ended up with diptheria and was never really well again afterwards. I'd love to go to America and visit all the places she lived in!0 -

I love her books too.
It was a harsh life,I agree.
Her husband walked with a limp for the rest of his life after catching diptheria and then having a stroke.
I have a very informative book called 'The Little House Cookbook' by Barbara M, Walker and illustrations by Garth Williams (who illustrated all L.I.W.'s books)which is a collection of over 100 recipes mentioned in her books. The blurb says 'even more than a cookbook, this collection is a social history of frontier life'.
A very enjoyable read.0 -

Just a little tip from me to keep your kitchen warm!
I have no heating in my kitchen so have found it really cold first thing in the morning but have over the last few days used my slow cooker as a way of keeping the kitchen warm all day/night, if I am not using it for cooking I simply fill it with water and set it on low...cosy & warm for 24 hours at a fraction of the cost, also today whilst I was faffing around in the kitchen I put some knickers on top of the s/ckr to air LOL
BeemPlease pull my nightie down when you have finished0 -

I've just put some bubble-wrap on the kitchen windows.Does it matter which side goes against the window pane?
i've always put mine with the bubbles against the glass, then it's like double glazing as it traps the air in those spaces. a simple wipe with a damp cloth on the window should be enough to hold the bubblewrap on, surfaces tension does all the work for you! if it starts coming away from the window just break out the damp cloth again, very easy!0 -
Just checking in - hope everyone is ok, keeping warm and stuff. Just a reminder to check on your more delicate (elderly) neighbours to see if they need anything.
We werent as organised as I would have liked prior to this snow but thanks to this thread (thanks everyone) we did so some prepping:
Buying rocksalt from B&Q
UHT milk
Bread mixes (had forgotten how lovely the breadmaker bread is)
Finding ice scrapers and deicer for the car
Adding winter screen wash for the windscreen wipers
Buying thermals. Not glam but warm!
Stuff not so prepared for:
Prescription meds - nothing desperate just something should have done.
Keep warm everyone.Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!" Less things. Less stuff. More life.Fab thread: Long daily walks

I fell over yesterday on the way to taking my daughter to school and now I have a lovely blue bruise spreading out from my coccix. Its sore!!!!!!
LL came last night (we have been getting clonking noises from our boiler - but surprise surprise it wouldn't do it when we tried to show him) and here I have been thinking I have been very good putting curtains lined with old blankets up the doors - but I forgot to put that sticky draught excluder round the door first!!!! Of all the things I have done that would have been the simplist!!!! lol
I am going to see what I can do with the garage because the blanket I have put across it really is not helping with the cold that much in there. I think I shall make a looooooong draught excluder sausage for along the bottom of the door.
Hubby went out the work at 5:30am this morning (after 2 days off sick) and got there ok despite the icy roads and snow.Donna

Ouch Diddly, having broken my coccyx twice you have my sympathy!
Stay safe and warm today everyone - looks like a cold one out there.
Did anyone see the man on BBC breakfast this morning giving advice about heating and costs, only caught a bit of it but sounded like he needed a visit to this thread for some more ideas!0
