My boilers making a funny noise  so I've turned it off till hubby gets home.
I'm frozen, 12c indoors and dropping
Have enough coal to keep a very small fire going in the living room till he's home.
I've got so many layers on its difficult moving, wonder how long I can hold off from needing to go to the loo!

My DH is South African, and those hailstones are quite small in comparison to some he's seen - as big as tennis balls he said. They can kill if they hit you, and have smashed windscreens.

Your DH is right. We had the tennis ball size hail, once in Durban whilst driving in a car.

I was terrified that the windscreen would shatter. They made quite a noise too.

    :(

Do you have a slow cooker Annie?

Go and fill it with water and put it on high, it will help to warm the room up.

Just done the same myself and it really does work.

    ;)

Now if you had a Shewee you would be sorted.

Does it?! Hmmmm... may have to try that!

Wrap up Annie! I recommend filling up a hot water bottle and making a cocoon around you with a blanket.

Perhaps we should all hit Poundland and buy some of those foil blankets that they have in their camping section.

 I'd rather freeze my b*m!

No slow cooker I'm affraid but, have moved computer into living room, lite the small fire, have wheat bags stuffed in boots, chopped fingers off of old gloves to keep hands warm, kept the curtains closed, and hot water bottle wrapped around my back with a scarf.
My back muscles hurt big time if they get cold.

Feeling warmer now, the only bit thats chilly is my nose,
could knit one but thought better of it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSZFn6AfUGufCtdzxZj7rLQr9B6GK80OqEJy73JZn0Sn5gMOLVY

just -1 here right now (realfeel of -9 and i don't doubt that one!) but it's supposed to be -8 during the day tomorrow, wonder what the realfeel will be for that!

schools closed again, an entire week, my daughter is thrilled lol but it's so cold none of the kids want to play outside  thankfully she remembered she had some dvds she never watched and she's sitting at her computer happily watching them.

i had really hoped i could get to argos today, we've been without the telly since it died on saturday but they still haven't cleared the streets and my neighbour with his ginormous RV decided to park it, he at least moved it so it's not blocking the way to the parking area but in doing so he left really really deep tyre grooves in the snow right where i need a taxi to go *sighs* tomorrow i may just suck it in and smile really nicely when they get to my flat in hopes they'll get as close as possible, either that or go on about my bad knee as i'm in the car with him so he feels guilty enough to help me carry the telly if he can't get right up to my door ;) i DO tip though so i won't feel guilty about it... just getting bored to tears here and missing my shows, that's how i unwind after working 12 hours a day (i may work from home but that doesn't mean i don't work many hours!)

ok enough whinging about that... i have a question

i've been feeding the birds here, i have a small bird feeder i hung up but i don't have much seed left so i also upturned a frisbee, put a few rocks in it to hold it down and then filled it with some leftover cooked rice, bread bits and some finely chopped apple. they finally found it and have devoured it all.

now the idea occured to me that maybe oats are good but i worry they may have the same effect as uncooked rice (swelling up once they hit the stomach acid) does anyone know if it's ok to give birds uncooked oats? or what about little bits of cooked porridge? unsalted of course... i'm just trying to think of little things i can give them

todays menu is very finely torn up bits of stale tortilla, apple, a few last grains of left over COOKED rice with veg and some mixed seeds (pumpkin, linseed, sunflower and a few pine nuts!) hope they're enjoying it, i know my daughter gets a kick out of mothering the neighbourhood birds... i think she has what i call my 'Italian Mother Syndrome' (and no i'm not italian, i just need to feed people!) :rotfl:

you could do a bear grylls... wee in a jar, screw the lid on tightly then tuck the jar inside your jumper near your chest to keep your core temp warmer :p

i hope your boiler is ok, really really not a good time to have it break down, i'll be thinking of you!
