Apparently it is a proven scientific fact that women feel the cold easier than men.

i can def back up the statement in that article about how we feel colder when we're tired
i have a lot of problems with my knees and back so when i've had a long day out and about i come home and collapse on the sofa to try and start 'healing' however i almost always start feeling very cold, even in summer
when i took my daughter to dundee last month i'd been walking off and on for a good 4 hours and i was utterly shattered. no matter what i just could not get warm. i was under 2 duvets, had a fleece wrapped around my shoulders, in my thickest warmest clothes and had my booties on, a hot wheat bag and hot tea!
i have also noticed that when i am really upset about something i get really really cold, like down to the bone cold and it's only when i start to feel a bit better that i warm up. i can only guess that the emotional stress is extremely exhausting and is consuming the energy i'd need to keep me warm!0 -
I always feel cold when I am tired. My hubby says I look like a little old lady when I snuggle up under my blanket on the sofa.Donna
Economy; careful management; providence. Whether you call it thrifty or frugality it all comes down to getting more for your money.0 -
I also get cold when I am tired or emotional.
Kittie, would it be worth having one of those wind-up torches in ithe car? Some of them come with a mobile phone charger too so you'd be able to make an emergency call even if your battery ran out.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

How about a card with emergency contact numbers on? No good having them in your phone if it's run out of charge
Sorry but it's worth thinking about.

I bought the oil filled radiator for my kitchen (freezing cold single story extension on the back of a terrace) and it's fantastic, for the first time in 7 years we have a warm kitchen. It's got 3 settings, 800w, 1.5kw and 2kw and also a thermostat min-max for each setting. It doesn't have a timer but I just bought a plug in one for about £3 and have that set to come on in the morning.
Thank you! There's none in stock near me so I asked my Dad if he could get one for me to take home at Christmas and he says they have a new halogen heater in the garage I can have :j All I want is a burst of warmth first thing in the morning and occasionally working in my room which a halogen heater is perfect for, there's no point even trying to heat the whole room!
I'm looking at getting a small low watt oil filled radiator as a means of helping my washing dry(it's taking 4 days atm!) and gently heating near my desk on days where I'm working in here for long.
If I use them as planned (halogen 1/2 hr at ~7am everyday and oil rad 4 hours per week on wash+work day) it will cost 45p per week  Of course I might end up using them a bit more if it gets really cold but still, that's half the cost of using my rubbish storage heater to badly heat the room by 2C for one day! The argos oil rad i'm looking at would pay for itself in just over a month at that rate :TLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Finally! The curtains in the living room are up. I can't believe the difference it has made as the living room has been so lovely tonight. It's about time!0

Thank you so much for helping with the emergency car kit list. There are a few things I would not have thought about and I have copied the list now and am ready to start preparing it0

Don't forget drinks in your car kit. And if you are planning a journey in snowy weather, take a flask of something hot to drink just in case.
Also, if anyone smokes (:o) then keep a spare packet of 10 in the car... Its dreadful to be stuck in 5 hours of traffic with no cigarattes if you are a smoker. Better still, get Alan Carrs Easy Guide to Giving Up Smoking0 -

I got a couple from ebay - my local MrT was doing a few wind-up items recently and I got a lantern from there.0
