we are going to prepare a winter car kit for 2 adults. Can someone help me make a list?

My father did this a couple of years back for his car and my mums. I remember there being a normal blanket, some of those foil blankets (you can get them in camping shops or off the internet - in summer they do them in Poundland) and a big bar of high strength emergency chocolate (I think he got it from an outdoors shop). There may have been more...I'll have a think.

I've just done one of these as I have to travel alot in the mountains.

I've got two blankets, de-icer, scraper, pack of cereal bars, heat pads - the air activated ones for back pain but we use them to keep warm, a torch, a shovel, wellies and spare socks and two high visability jackets. Also I try and make sure the car doesn't get too low on fuel just in case I need to go an alternative route due to the weather or to keep warm if I get stuck.

    Hope this helps.

How are you supposed to get it off the roof?

We def don't have ladders that reach up to roof level and if we did my husband wouldn't get up there, he is afraid of heights.

well generally speaking if there's enough snow on the roof for it to make it collapse, there's enough snow on the ground to build a snow ramp to walk up the side or at least part way!

during the blizzard of 78' in the midwestern US i remember my grandfather climbing out a window after day 3 or 4 of us being snowed in and he was able to walk right up to the roof to sweep it off! mind you that was a bungalow.

to be honest with a taller house i don't know what to do but it might be worth investigating if the winters get as bad as last year! i'm sure a google search would help... maybe even search how you can set off an avalance (well not with dynamite like they do in mountain resorts :rotfl:) i'm sure you could find something that would help you in that case... best do it before it gets that bad, you might lose your electricity and google! :p

As soon as you move to a nice warm house/flat then you wont have to move again??You will find somewhere else that you will love as same as the one youve got now, but with a good heating system........:)

i know what you mean but seriously the thought of moving house actually makes me want to jump out of a window, as daft as it seems i really do not want to budge, i've had to much moving house in my life to do it again for a while lol

Plus many flats in this area of London don't have proper central heating, out of about 30 we saw, one did :( but it got snapped up before we had chance. They all seem to have these silly electric heaters.

Going to go and get a couple of oil filled rads from argos at the weekend i think. i know all electric heaters of any kind are the same efficiency but at least there are portable lol i'm going put one near us on the sofa and the other in my little office area.

I could have killed my boyfriend last night tho, i got the bedroom nice and toasty and he came in and moaned it was too hot and then stood and let all the warm out the door  He seriously is the opposite of me when it comes to heat, he is always red hot and never seems to feel the cold, where as i start shivering the second august is over!! (altho he agrees our livingroom is cold so it must be bad!)

Apparently it is a proven scientific fact that women feel the cold easier than men.

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

Last time i looked at my mum's it was out of date! :) Seemed such a waste of good chocolate...not that I wouldn't have eaten it anyway...especially if stuck in my car! :rotfl:
