Well it's been flippin' freezing and blowing a gale here today.

I picked my 11 year old up from school and she said she was freezing.

Then she said their last lesson which was PE involved playing hockey outside whilst wearing a short sleeve shirt and shorts!

well my heating expirament hasbeen a success! the wee one has complained a little about being cold but after a suggestion of putting on her thermals (which she loves) and making sure she had her slipper boots on, i wrapped her up in a duvet over her knees and a fleece over her shoulders and she's been very happy

about an hour ago i put a pumpkin and some potatoes in the oven, also have the scrumped apples stewing in the slow cooker with last years failed elderberry jam (guess it's cordial now lol don't worry it had a proper seal and smells and tastes fine) that's gonna get made into fruit leathers when it's ready... i also put some of the apples in the dehydrator so now with all those things going and even with it being after dark we're both so warm we've lost the blankets AND the slippers :T

i was going to make those things anyway so timing making them for when we most need the heat is just a bonus!

tonight i will turn the hall heater on though... i really don't want the house getting too cold because i know from experience trying to play catch up with the thermal mass is not nice

    hope everyone is snug ;)

oh i found my draught... i forgot to latch my bedroom door last night and there is still some air that comes in from the smaller gaps in the window frame i haven't been able to stuff with paper (oh well room needs ventilating) so when it was gusting there was enough air in the room to move the creaky door ever so slightly!

    That's what I was thinking.

There goes my housework if she is off, I never get much done if I'm not on my own for some reason. :o

I remember being forced to do outdoor PE, be it hockey, netball etc OUTSIDE in perishing cold weather whilst the teachers were in warm snuggly tracksuits... Our legs would be glowing red with wind burn and cold by the time we finished. Dreadful. Worse was that what we wore were basically great big enormous tight granny knickers. Not so "hot pants" It defies belief that we tolerated that!!!

Fortunately for me, I had a nasty fall down the stairs and tore ligaments in my foot and ankle and was written off PE for a while... which I stretched (for outdoor winter activities) until I left which was a good 2.5 years :D

Not a chance was I going out there in those conditions dressed like that and if my girls ever are in the same position, they will be sent to school with a letter and a tracksuit if they ask me ;)

I didn't want to put the heating on during the day even though it was nippy today, so I sat with a quilted inner jacket waistcoat on and had my feet on a hot water bottle.

Lovely, I can't believe how much warmer the rest of your body feels when your feet are nice and toasty.

    :D

And a scarf! Has anyone else noticed how much warmer you feel if you wear a scarf? Just a light one, it doesn't have to be the full Dr Who model! ok, so you might feel silly, but if you're warm who cares?:D Keep warm everyone:)
