The only other issue is my wheelie bin. It sits next the the front door, backing onto the tall metal gate to the back garden. This wind is bashing it against the wall of the stairs, against the metal gate and also sounds like it is lifting the lid and flapping it shut.

i had problems with this a few nights ago... went to take some rubbish out and found both mine and my neighbours brown bin toppled over as well as her blue bin... my blue bin had the lid flipped back so all my cardboard and paper recycling was getting soaked! fortunately it didn't tip our rubbish bins over!

Aw, snoods...I want one! I remember knitting one years ago out of recycled wool (we were always taught to 'pull out' old jumpers when they'd outlived their wearing status!) I'm not a great knitter but an oblong, knitted in rib then joined up to make a tube did the job. I only wore it when I took the dog out in the dark and I knew that I wouldn't meet anyone I knew....:rotfl:

me too, this was early 60's at grammar school, teacher was always bundled up in a sweater + track suit + gloves and scarf whilst we were in cotton shorts and a cotton t-shirt

oh yes, shegar, a snood, I used to have one that was a circle thing, could be worn as a scarf or a hood, lovely and warm, why don't they sell useful stuff like that anymore?

You can still get them at M&S, I know the saying you get what you pay for and I did.......Its had loads of washes but still look as good as it did when I bought it..........I cant for the life of me remember what I paid for it, bit I do believe it wouldnt have been more than £12 quid, and yes it dont flatten your hair, I now feel bare:eek: without it.........

I was in Peebles this morning and there's a snooty yuppy (read that as gorgeous-but-I-cant-afford-it-) shop in the High St, it has Ugg and North Face gear in it. They had a lovely cream snood on a glass head (!) in the window. Thick and soft and expensive looking. I dono the name of the shop, but the coat on the rack just inside was marked REDUCED!!! and it was still £139.99 ! :D

Most fashion shops like New Look & Primark are selling snoods now as apparently they're the "must have" fashion accessory this year.

My 16yr old DD would never wear a scarf but she bought herself a snood last week for £5 and has worn it constantly! She wears hers as a doubled up scarf but it would also go over the head. She did see a nice cabled snood that she liked but it was £12 and she wouldn't pay that (I've raised her well :D) so we've found a scarf pattern on ravelry that she likes and I'm going to knit it and just join the ends.

Ooh thanks, I'll have a look in the shops. :TI'm afraid Bon Marche is about my level:o Does this mean that I would be in danger of being trendy or 'on trend' as I understand the phrase is these days?:D

I think maybe a snood is the next knitting project then and more suitable to wear out than my little shawl! I shall be looking out for them in the shops too, hoping to get into town on Monday morning ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I didn't want to put the heating on during the day even though it was nippy today, so I sat with a quilted inner jacket waistcoat on and had my feet on a hot water bottle.

Lovely, I can't believe how much warmer the rest of your body feels when your feet are nice and toasty.

    :D
I couldn't agree more. If my feet are cold my whole body is cold and there is no better way of warming your feet than a nice cuddly rubber hot water bottle. I love mine.

    so how's everyone getting on?

i'm doing my best to find alternative ways to heat the house by doing other things that need doing as well such as baking.

i've heard very good things about the electric clothes airer from lakeland http://www.lakeland.co.uk/lakeland-dry-soon-heated-airer/F/keyword/Airer/product/21736 and that got me thinking that that might be another one of those ways i could take the edge off by using something both for heat and it's original purpose.

my old wooden airer and my living room radiator worked fine this year but this new one i had to get to replace the wooden one (ex stepped on the bottom and broke it :() it just isn't doing a good job, things take too long to dry and i don't understand why as the heater still seems to be belting out the same amount of heat.

last night i specifically turned the heat on so i could do clothes and i have to have it on again tonight because they aren't dry but i think we could have done with it only being on a few hours last night and possibly not at all tonight if it weren't for the clothes so it's making the airer more appealing

also, the thought occured to me that when it def becomes too cold to just need a top up in the living room to take the edge off, the heated airer could keep the back bedroom we don't use in winter to a reasonable temp (i turn the radiators on if it reaches 13C during the day to keep the mould at bay). then i wouldn't have to use the radiator in there which doesn't work very well anyway AND i wouldn't have to dry my clothes in the living room :T

i don't know, maybe i'm just trying to justify the cost but this new airer is quite frankly ticking me off....

anyway, hadn't seen any posts in awhile and thought i'd check in. and i'm also curious to hear from anyone that has one of these, i've read the reviews at length and i'm happy to layer the clothes and cover with a sheet to trap the heat in more (in fact that's what i'm trying tonight with my non heated airer, only the side facing the raditator isn't covered with a sheet....

i think i would have already ordered one but when i tried it said it wouldn't be here til nov 29th! so i guess at that rate i'd better make a decision fast, i can't stand the stink of clothes that don't dry fast enough
