Remember downshifter your appliances need airflow round them due to the motors, don't try to block it off!!!!! Could you hang a curtain from hooks and eyes underneath the worksurface??? That would stop the draft but still allow airflow around the appliance.

Thanks, yes I thought about a curtain, I remember my aunt always had them round her kitchen, however the washer and fridge both stick out into the room further than the units so I couldn't make it work.

A tip for all though, the damson gin I made a couple of months ago is keeping me nicely warm - hic!

Its good to read how all you people are giving each other tips with how to keep your houses warm, damp free, etc, etc, all good advise ,nice to see people helping each other like that ........

Im one of the lucky ones I think cos our bungalow has good DG, good GCH , no draughts at all, good insulation, no damp, no condensation.....

I can tell you weve lived in some cold places in our time , we moved here 4 years ago and we will never move again.......we really do appreciate our home......and it is what you make it.....:)

Thank you Mardatha, yes I'm here, still downshifting away as usual. Oh dear, but I have to confess I do have some problems with your name, I know you're not mad Arthur, but I wish you were. My daughter's favourite expression at the moment is 'mard ahse' (not quite the right spelling but you get the picture!) and I always think of you when she says that. She calls everyone from her cat, to her partner and even sometimes her daughter a mard ahse, when they're being particularly mardy. She's such a well dragged up young woman normally!

    Sorry.

But thanks for caring. I'm back to living in the kitchen again, as last winter, as the heating refuses to stay on, despite having ordered (and paid for) a full tank of oil which is very aggravating. I'm about to go on a draft hunt with a lighted candle, god it's freezing though I'm glad the wind has gone round to the back of the house now, it was a nightmare yesterday when it was at the front. 300 yrs ago they knew how to build houses, there are only a couple of windows in the back (north) side of the house.

Hope you're keeping cosy up there in the frozen north, it's too early for this cold yet. Brrr!!!

    Wow!

No snow here but it is cold and frosty. The sun is out now and the sky is cloudless so no chance of us getting snow. Am a bit jealous!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!
