Is it easy to make blinds ? Or to line existing ones ? I need something in the kitchen and bathroom but there's no room for curtains. I don't have anything up in the kitchen just now - and only a cheap thin Ikea white blind in the bog. Not overlooked so didn't really matter... but last winter got very cold.

Can you put one of those extending curtain poles up, the ones with a spring tension rod inside that you use in the bathroom?

I have put one in our kitchen between the walls above the kitchen window as we have a very narrow galley style kitchen. Plus, one above the kitchen door between the end of the wall unit and the understairs cupboard. I have used those wooden curtain pole rings to attach the curtains to the pole.

The poles are about £7 in Argos.

    ;)

for the first time this year, I could see my breathe as I scootered the children to school today, huge drop in temperature here it feel like, brrrrrr....
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

    Morning everyone :)

Whoever suggested to me that I use paper mache to fill the holes in my outside wall, where plumbing came out... THANK YOU :T

I tore a load of newspaper into thin strips, then into small pieces, mixed with half kids PVA glue and half water, mixed til squidgy then plugged the gaps :D I am very pleased.

All I have to do now is get a small pot of varnish and then it will be waterproof too :) Hope it doesn't rain before I do it coz I am a bit worried about it absorbing water and making a damp problem.

That should prevent a fairly hefty draft :T

They look the same to me Jo - just listed a bit differently (one is just for size 6 and doesn't have the P&P built into the price). But it seems to be the same basic product I think.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

We've got "train breath" here today too. :snow_grin
Still got all the windows wide open though and the thermostat is reading 15C so I'm just layering up. I'm hoping that this will help with the condensation problem I'm having ATM. EVERY window in the house is dripping in the mornings. I can't wait until I have time next week to put up the extra glazing film as its currently buried at the back of the understairs cupboard behind a pile of stuff for freecycle :o
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

    Woohoo I am on a roll :D

I have now made a 'behind the radiator panel' for the living room :j

I used an old cardboard box which opened out then cut to fit behind the rad, then stapled bubble wrap (free from mrT in the fruit section) and finally 2 layers of tin foil which I stapled on too :D

Am very happy - much less heat going thru the outside wall :money:

(House is still a mess but its gonna be a warmer mess :D)

We had an open fire in our middle room - all home made by the person who lived here before, only that person was no master builder and filled the house with bodge jobs

It was taken out in April of last year and left a 5ft by 5ft hole in the wall that was just covered by some nailed on cardboard

Luckily we've found a builder who is charging just 10% of what the builder who did our grant (badly) wanted to remove the back boiler and brick it up and so he's in the middle room filling it now. We're going to be waaaarm finally :D

First winter with double glazing, fleeced up curtains and no holes in chimneys :D :T:j

Keeping feet warm- line your wellington boots with bubble wrap !
Just seen this on this morning. Just line bubblewarp to the ankles in boots and meant to keep cold out and insulate.

There be no bubblewrap left in the coutry between wrapping aroung radiators, windows and now legs !

Absolutely freezing last night and woke up to fog :(. Need to sort out my windows as was getting fooled by the sun for a while there thinking winter was far away !
