  • nikki my boiler has a digital thermostat which ive set for the ch to come on if house temp drops to 14deg,during the day,and 10deg at night so i dont have a set date in year for when ch gets switched on,so far it was on for a few days at the end of sept, but hasnt been on since as house hasnt been cold enough.i will set the timer part of the thermostat when it gets colder so that its on for an hour in the morn, and a while in the eve,at a temp of 19deg.

chillout thought of your chemical bomb/melting pipes story today as hubby and kids were doing a science kit,:rotfl:

Might get a woolly hat for home use too :D

I think keeping the extremities well insulated is one of the secrets to staying warm indoors - thick socks, woolly hat and fingerless gloves.

    Welcome to the boards, ss40!

Well, at the risk of your all throwing stuff at me...

IT HAS BEEN BOILING HERE TODAY!!!!A really glorious day, hot sunshine, hens had to dig themselves holes in the lawn to stay cool

(Hah! Not for long, hens: DH has built the Fence of Doom around a strip of garden leading down to the river and there you will stay once it's finished, bwah ha ha.....)

Still dark really early though - you can't REALLY fool yourselves into thinking it's summer :(

Keep warm, northern neighbours! Doubtless it'll be freezing here too soon!

Thanks for the welcome ChocClare. I wish it had been boiling here today, but it is heating up a bit now! Will go shut heating off in a minute.

:shhh: sorry that I HAD to put my heating on!

I have been preparing for winter, by making jam in the summer , Strawberry syrup (it didn't set) Rhubarb - there may be none left very soon as it's sooooo good and Raspberry (don't think there's much of that left either - my son eats half the jar at one sitting when it gets opened!

My fleece blankets are refreshed ready for use.

I don't have a woodburner, just council double glazing, cavity wall insulation and insulated loft - just what the council gave us. _party_ Unfortunately I live in a block of 6 at the top - you say that's good, but there is no one underneath me at the minute so have to use my own money to heat the whole house :O( :snow_grin It is a bit colder, but warmer because of all the insulation.

I used to live in a house with coal central heating, it was lovely and warm ALL the time - sometimes it was TOO much, but I like my flat now because I can choose when to put the heating on and off, put my slippers on, or my warm duvet on my bed or couch. It WAS toasty though!

Forgot to mention - thought I was going to have to buy myself a NEW jacket for the winter as the one I bought last year was stretched over me by the time winter ended (TOO much chocolate), but when I tried the jacket on it fitted!!! Will need to buy new jumpers to keep me warmer instead!!! WOOP!!!

    Later :hello:
