Today I finally finished sewing on the header tab on to a Asda cream fleece as a lining for living room curtains.

Did the other one weeks ago. But then sewed the header tape on the wrong way  what a plank. So I gave up.

Pulled the sewing machine out as I was turning a collar on my husbands shirt. Nothing wrong with the shirt apart from the collar fraying I am so :j it was not a great job but at least it means the shirt looks ok.

Sunny here was awful yesterday. One load of washing dired and another on the line.

Need to think about stuff up holes and gaps. And doing something about the front and back doors to try and keep the heat in.

    Yours

    Calley

I think mine does take leaves Frugal, but I'm not certain it's supposed to. I put some hebe prunings through and the motor coped ok but the leaves were in fairly big chunks still.

Thanks for the info anyway, it's good to have some sort of idea. I was thinking of donating it to our residents association - I know they have ladders and drain rods that they lend but not sure they would like to add this to their collection. There might be issues with it being electrical, everything is so regulated now.

CCP, my radiators all have those 1-5 things too, really annoying!

As yet still not had the heating on,when I get up in the morning I whizz the hoover around, and make the bed and wash up all as fast as I can as I heat up quite easily for some reason, so by the time I am ready to jump into the shower I am ready for a slightly cooler one to cool me down IYSWIM. I aslo tend to use my SC overnight to cook stuff ,that way the kitchen is a bit warmer first thing .I found by not having my heating on timer only my water tank (for two hours in the morning )I have managed to cut right down on my central heating bills i only put it on for an hour as and when its really cold .i have a small thermometer in my sitting room attached to a tiny clock and as long as it says between 19-21 c in the sitting room i don't really need the heating on.I had my house walss insulated and double thickness insulation in the loft a couple of years ago and it really has made a big differance to the heating bills .I also have a HM blanket that I stick over my knees and feet if I feel a bit chilly whilst watching t.v. Thick wooly socks help better than slippers I find.,but the best when its really nippy is a woolly hat indoors.I live alone so it doesn't bother me how daft I look as long as I am warm.

Thanks to all the tips on here I've managed to have my duel fuel bill cut again this year :D Its gone from £75 a month when X was here, to just £50 a month as of the next payment :D:money::j

Now just out of curiosity, what temperature do you have your central heating thermostats set to? I think mine is too high at the minute, but not sure how low I should set it. I'm a 1926+ end terrace and my only neighbors are out at work for most of the day so I can't even borrow their heat :rotfl: I also have quite a problem with damp throughout the house (lack of/patchy heating before I had the CH fitted) so I'm trying to get the house to a constant temperature where the place will dry out a bit! There is already a noticeable difference in some rooms :D However in the hall/stairway (northfacing gable end) the mold is growing again and you can feel a cold patch about half way up the stairs. I'm thinking I need to move the thermostat as I think in its current location its too close to the hall radiator and the reason I have to set the temperature to 25C to get the whole house warmed equally.

When I used to live in damp and mouldy bedsits, I bought (from good old woolies) These plastic bowls with lids with air vents. In the bowls you poured these crystals or granules which absorbed water from the air. They really worked very well. These are still sold in ironmongers and diy shops. If you don't have nosey pets, or small children I would recommend getting some. The only thing is you'll need a few. Maybe 2 or 3 for each room to be really effective.

This is really a temporary solution. Sounds as if you need the outside wall re-pointing, or to sort out the guttering. Something needs attention. Good luck.

i'm actually pleasantly surprised, i still haven't had to put the bubblewrap on the two windows i had it on last year (though i do now need to stuff my warped bedroom window with paper as i mentioned earlier) i tried the hall and bedroom heater for 30 minutes several weeks ago to make sure they still work ok. i meant to test the one in my daughters bedroom but it hasn't been cold enough for me to bother testing, thought i'd save it for a cold night

i think the neighbours all have their heat on so i'm reaping the benefits of that. i actually had to fight the urge to open the kitchen window tonight as the roast has made it unbearably hot, instead i opened the bedroom and bathroom doors to help heat the rest of the house.

don't get me wrong it's been chilly here and down right cold on some nights but it's just not bothering us really. i often have to kick off my slippers as my feet are too hot and i'm still poking my feet out from under the duvet most nights.

i am wearing my colder weather clothes and i tend to sit with a blanket on my lap but i'm fairly cozy... think i might see if i can make it til november before the heat goes on... didn't have a choice last year i got a really serious case of the flu and felt cold cold cold so it went on by this time last year due to that (darned flu took 6 weeks to get properly over ) knock wood,we're both healthy this year!
