I think we're a bit better prepared for winter now. Both DH and I have just had awful colds (DH is still getting over his) and the med cupboard is stocked up! That'll help. :)

I did break out the fluffy socks last night. My it was chilly! Today it hasn't been too bad in the house, but that might have been down to the slow cooker. A gammon shank has been cooking away in there, ready to make a chicken & ham pie (for the freezer for winter) and a hearty ham & mixed veg soup (perhaps for winter, it depends on how long it lasts!). Either way, it's feeling toasty in here at the mo.

I do need to stock up on teabags though... ;)

    Hello everyone. :hello:

Today I went to Asda to buy some of their cheapy fleeces to act as 'curtains' for the patio doors in my living room (another bright idea from someone on this thread - :T to whoever came up with that idea), and found they were on special offer, two for £3. :j

    ;)

We weren't supposed to be going in till next Friday but I thought we'd better go sooner, to make sure they still had them, so we went on Thursday.
They didn't have any :(. We were told they were probably a special offer, which is now finished.

Never mind. Our new dehumidifier is wonderful. It's been taking out 2 or 3 litres a day for the last 3 days and DS5's room no longer smells mouldy. :j

The shop I bought them from didn't have any signs up to say they were on special offer - I didn't realise until I got home and looked at the receipt. Not that that's any help to you, I know. :(

Kitchenbunny - I can only admire your restraint in putting a chicken and ham pie away for another day. It's one of my absolute favourites, and wouldn't last any time at all if it was anywhere near me. :o
Back after a very long break!

CCP, hugs to you. Hope you and your family are ok.

Red Doe, I LOVE the look of where you live! It's just beautiful and I bet you will be cosy inside no matter how cold it gets this winter.

Is it just me or does anyone else get really excited about the thought of nights drawing in, its dark outside and you cuddle up on the couch with a blanket and hot choccie with a nice book/mag, with only a lamp as your friend and only light or evening strolls outside but your wrapped up so warm you can't feel the cold, only the wind....aaaahhh, pure bliss, can't wait!:D
I know what you mean .... I was always like that. This year I'm a bit worried about my gas bill which makes me feel a bit less enthusiastic. I still love winter though and luckily it's been mild so haven't needed the heating on at all yet. :)
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

now the weather has turned colder, i am feeling the benefit already:T
and will be completely prepared when the proper winter kicks in

last year we were VERY guilty of just sticking the heating on as soon as a nip was in the air
    not this year
we have jumpers, wooly socks, fleecy throws, rugs down, draught excluders....you get the picture:rotfl:

all thanks to the mse'ers that live in my lappy:j

Red Doe I love that picture. It would make lovely Christmas cards! My idea of a perfect place to live would be somewhere where there aren't any immediate neighbours. Something like your house actually :D

I become a very antisocial person in winter. As soon as it gets dark I feel as if I should be going to bed, and am often happy to climb the stairs quite early with a book and snuggled down under the duvet reading. Guess it's a very basic animal instinct to head for the nest as soon as darkness falls. I'd probably have been very happy in the middle ages when everybody went to bed as soon as it got dark because they couldn't afford to keep the candles burning. And it's a good excuse to turn the heating down! Luckily not many people go house visiting after dark so nobody knows the hours I keep.
