If you like proprietary stuff that ties you down then go for a kindle; if you want something that's open and without all those buttons look at Sony.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

I use the sony and buy from waterstones and wh smith as well as open source books. It's not much cheaper than a paperback but you can carry a whole shelf of books in your handbag, which is cool. It's certainly worth gettong *one* of them.
Conversely the classic books for the DS - terrible, burns your eyes with the brightness!Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Yep was about to post that myself, it looks better than the sony reader.
Sure it does. If you like plastic.
Mine's the matt silver Sony PRS-505 - stylish.
W.H. Smith are currently selling the Sony Readers starting at £99 for the PRS-300: http://www.whsmith.co.uk/catalogandsearch/sonyebookreader.aspx
The Kindle starts at £109 for the non-3G wi-fi model: Kindle
Argos are selling some e-readers by Binatone and Cooler, but I've no idea if they are any good. The Binatone starts at £90, but the reviews don't look promising: e-readers @ ArgosI have no signature.0 -

Oh yes you can. You have to convert the file though.
There are many more ebook stores out there too, besides Amazon.I have no signature.0 -

If you put it in a water proof bag first, then yes. If it's not in a bag, then no. That goes for all e-readers, and almost every other device that can be used to read ebooks.
The resealable 'grippa' bags from the supermarkets will do the job, as long as there are no gaps at the seal.
In one of these, you could go diving with it: http://www.thewaterproofstore.com/drypakpda.htmlI have no signature.0 -
I went for the Sony because I like the library books - don't like paying for books!!
As for a plastic waterproof cover - I had one once, fortunately just holding metal mney and a key - it leaked! (and it was not a cheap one!!) No way would I trust my precious Sony to one of those! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
With my Sony I've never had to buy any ebooks.. and it isn't proprietary, being a mass storage usb device and drag & drop. I also like the annotation and handwriting features.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.
