You should get it 72 hours before travel.

What will you do if you can't get access to the internet or there are problems with the site while you are away?

What is the reason for not getting it before you go?
  • Thank you for your reply. The reason I want to delay buying it, is because I am flying out of the UK in July but not returning until the end if August and I'm not planning on returning to the USA until August 2016. So if I get it before I leave it will expire in July 2016 & I want to travel again in August 2016

In that case get it when you are there, but make sure you use the official site which charges $14 and not one of the scam sites.

I am travelling to Florida later this year. Will my husband have to declare a breach of the peace from 27 years ago on the ESTA. He was arrested, charged with breach of the peace and fined in court. No other convictions since then. Would this be classed as moral turpitude. We have travelled to Florida 19 years ago and there was no problem but obviously things have changed since then.

    Thanks

    Hi!

I'm traveling to America on an ESTA which I applied for almost two years ago. The ESA expires when I'm out there. Do I just need it to be valid on the day I enter the US, or does it need to be valid for my whole stay?

No, just the date of entry

Do travelers need to update their travel authorization if it will expire before they depart from the United States?
No, An ESTA is only required to be valid on the day you enter the United States. The ESTA does not need to be valid for the entire time a traveler is in the U.S.. If the ESTA expires while you are in the U.S., it will not affect your admissibility or the amount of time you are permitted to remain in the U.S. If an ESTA travel authorization expires before the traveler leaves the United States, the traveler is not required to apply for another. The traveler will need to apply for a new travel authorization through ESTA, however, for future travel.

My travel authorization is valid for travel to the United States but will expire before I depart. Do I need to apply for a new one before my trip?
No. ESTA travel authorization needs only to be valid upon arrival in the United States.

  • Do I need to declare speeding offences (one of these offences was sentenced through court in 2006, as I had an EU license and not a UK license)?
    Many thanks

You do not need to declare speeding offences

The only thing they are relevant for (if they are recent) may be hiring a car
