I don't have it with me at the moment because I'm at work but I was born and lived here (the UK) all my life and just renewed my passport in Feb

I will check later but I'm guessing it says citizen so I should be picking that option?

If you were born and live here you will not be a British National (O)

BOC's do not even have right of abode for the UK.

    UP TO 90 days.

All discretionary at the whim of CBP officer
    Indeed
A maximum of 90 days is what I should have said :)

You need to check and put whatever it says in your passport :)

  • and if anyone was wondering why Nigella Lawson was prevented from travelling to the USA on Sunday,

    From the FAM manual

"an alien may ... be found ineligible if he or she admits
to committing the essential elements of a drug violation in lieu of a
    conviction under INA 212(a)(2)(A)(i)(II) "

Can't get much more of an admittance than swearing to taking cocaine under oath in a court case.

There was an interesting discussion on this on Radio 2 (Jeremy Vine) at lunchtime today (probably on iPlayer if anyone is interested).
Not sure the 'expert' American Lawyer told us anything we didn't already know though

flight number is not mandatory so you can leave it blank, but if you want to fill it in it would be the flight into the US.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    Hi, quick question:

I'm heading to USA on 11th June and returning on 11th August. My ESTA expires on July 24th, which I understand is perfectly fine as it only needs to be valid on the date of entry to the US.

However, whilst there I will be making a plane journey to another state within the US and the return leg of that journey is August 1st - would I require an ESTA to be valid on this date?

Also, I might be travelling to Canada by road - would visa's/equivalent be required for this? Thanks

An ESTA is only needed for travel into the USA. In other words it's not needed if you are moving around internally within the US, either by air, road or sea. So to your first question the answer is no. Depending on the security threat you may need photo ID to fly. Might as well use your passport although in the past I have used my UK driving licence.

As for Canada if you have a current British passport there is no need to apply for anything special to travel to Canada by road (or boat or air actually). However you may have to go into the nearby Canadian immigration office (there's usually one near each border crossing) and answer questions there and get a nice stamp in your passport, or a full search of all your bags and so on depending on how dubious you look!

If you do travel to Canada though, I'm guessing you might be going back over the border to the US to fly back to the UK? In that case you will need an valid ESTA on that date, or fill in an I-95W form depending on what the process is at that crossing back into the US, and indeed depending on what mode of transport you use. If you fly back into the US from Canada you will need a valid ESTA. I suppose if you do your Canadian trip before your ESTA expires you'll be ok.

    Hi

Hope someone can help. I am filling in my esta form online and it asks for my personal id number from my passport. An English letter followed by 9 numbers any idea where I can find it?

    Thanks

    Is it the passport number
