Hi there,
I think it's too early to hear back on the job I went for, so don't uncross those fingers yet please! Sorry to hear you had a bit of a blip - these things are bound to happen every once in a while. Just take a deep breath, tot up those receipts, add them to your spreadsheet, and try to figure out where you can cut back to try and make up for it. Was boyfriend suitably grateful?
I've had a bit of a crap one as well, I spent quite a bit on books for a kids and nieces and nephews for Christmas, but kids presents are necessary so it did have to be done at some point.
Thursday coming is the deadline for the bank to respond to my LBA - if not then I file my moneyclaim claim first thing Friday Morning. :O

There are very definitely grounds for wrongful dismissal if the reasons he's given for you not being suitable for the role is that you're a part-time mother! It sounds to me like they've changed their minds since the new boss has moved in - if they didn't want two part-time mothers doing the role, then why set it up like that in the first place?
What they will try and do is make it seem performance based rather than 'we're getting rid of you because you're a part-time mother'. But if he's told you that, then that's probably what's behind it. And it's so out of line!
I'm not sure what you do in situations like this to be honest, but there must be some kind of tribunal or employment council you can speak to about this. Even your HR dept if it's a large company and they have one! Even if you do see this as a chance to move on to something better, I'd pursue this if you can afford to. They shouldn't be allowed to get away with something like this.0 -
Hi. Sadly, we beat your amount and then some (and none of that's a mortgage) - I wonder if we owe the most?! I noticed your goal of feeding a family of five on £300 a month - that's been my food budget for a family of five for quite a while. Our children are 4, 13 and 14 (second family?? Don't know what you mean...) and Nathaniel is a vegetarian, so I think we manage on £300 as we rarely buy meat and we've excised all the crap from our diet. That means no crisps/squash/biscuits etc (except home-made), no fancy processed products like cheese strings and yoghurts etc (I make our yoghurt), no ready meals, only home-made jam, bread etc, veggies from the farm up the road and feeble attempts to grow our own. I also buy basics from LIDL whenever I can (pesto, bread flour, butter, apple juice) but that's a half an hour drive away so I don't get there too often. I always cook from scratch (my one indulgence is a jar of 'Lazy Ginger'!), often batch cook and meticulously plan meals. My cupboards are so boring I could weep LOL!If you can't be a good example, be a dire warning

Hi OneSpike,
(Your user name always makes me squirm uncomfortably :rotfl: )
Mortgage is a whole other cup of tea, which I'll deal with when the rest of it is sorted. At the moment I'm leaving it out of the equation.
You sound like you're doing much better than me. My first attempt at 300 was ok - 10 pound over, last month was a disaster, and this month was heading that way too. I've realised my mistake though - I let DH go to the shops too often. I was going through the freezer and found a big pack of Mars ice creams - argghhhhh. (And to add insult to injury I haven't even been able to have ONE!) I thought he was doing ok when I found that he'd washed dd3's disposable swim nappy - but I guess it was just a mistake
Good luck with your debt. I saw your thread start the other day, but had to didn't have time to reply. Will try to take a look later.

Yeeehaaaa!!! :j Just found out I have an interview at 11;15 on Monday morning - keep your fingers crossed for me please folks. I also have applied for another very interesting sounding one - but tbh, this is the one I really want.
In the mean time two more people have been told they have to find new jobs. It's outrageous, and we're all getting together to see what we can do about it.Debts @ lightbulb moment (13/06/2006) - £59,842.23  All commercial debts now clear!!! :T Debts April - £20,000 to family (incl extra £10k borrowed for house deposit). The way you are being treated brassic really is maddening:mad: ! Surely if you can do a part time job and be a full time mother, that makes you better than people who do not have that added pressure! Are you in a union/trade association that can help you out with this male bar steward of a boss you have. If I had said that to my two job share ladies I managed, MY COMPANY would have been down on my like a ton of bricks, let alone the union.
Have a look at your companies grievance procedure. All companies must have one by law. They would have to follow that TO THE LETTER, to not get into trouble at an industrial tribunal. Don't let this pile of **** win. He/she is a bully and shouldn't get away with it. As you have been with the company a long while, your pay out would be pretty big if it went to an industrial tribunal.
Also did your previous boss ever complain about your work. If not that is a plus for you too. Make sure you keep a diary of incidents, as this is evidence when it comes to a tribunal, if it does.
Well done with paying off your debts. Just goes to show what you can do if you try real hard. You have not said why you decided not to do a DMP(ie with payplan or cccs), was there any reason?I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Hi there Chevalier,
My previous boss I only had for a couple of months too and he never complained to me. I got a high rating in my previous review also. Since I've come back however it's been a fiasco with people leaving left right and centre, management changing every few months, and I've been without a Project Manager now for 4 or 5 months, so have been sidelined into doing support and enhancements, nothing new. Enough to keep me busy, but nothing spectacularI've been keeping records of our conversations, as have the other two who are in the same boat.
Thanks for the support. We decided not to go with a DMP for a few reasons. Firstly, we could see that if we tried hard we could just about keep our heads above water, so we wanted to be able to pay off what we owed fair and square.
Secondly, we have a mortgage that's fixed for 3 years, we'd like to be able to change it for similar or better at the end of the term.
Thirdly I just don't like admitting failure. I don't like being beholden and tied into things. We incurred them - if there's any possible way of paying them back - we will.
Right, I'm off for an early night. Mr Brassic and I have been sat here trying to figure out match betting. Sadly I've had too much wine (that'll be one glass then) and Mr B is hung up on the mechanics of lay betting so we're giving up for now and going to bed

Please someone slap me around the head with a wet fish or something
Why oh why oh why is it when I get a sniff of trouble I bury my head in the sand? I must have been an ostrich in a past life I swear. I got a letter from old bank the other day, saying that I had gone over my overdraft limit and incurred 30 quids worth of charges (again). Rah. It's true, I wrote a cheque for that account cos I couldn't find my other cheque book, and stupidly forgot to transfer the money
Problem is - with everything else going on, I forgot to do anything about the barclays letter too. Sooo, that means I've been overdrawn 3 days on the trot, totalling 90 quids worth of charges <sob>

I'm soooo cross with myself, a) for forgetting, and b) for burying my head in the sand and being too scared to look at any of my accounts for another 2 days following it. Rah. Am logging in now to sort it out <cue hollow laugh - I don't have 90 quid so not sure how yet> but I need a good kick too for being so damn blonde about it. :wall:
Edited to add : Extra annoyed now cos I actually had enough in the sister account to have just transferred across and stopped the subsequent 60 quids worth of charges going out. <Hangs head in mortification>Debts @ lightbulb moment (13/06/2006) - £59,842.23  All commercial debts now clear!!! :T Debts April - £20,000 to family (incl extra £10k borrowed for house deposit).
