    Hey Brassic,

Sorry wasn't on Yesterday was a very busy girl!

You are being very good with the b'day present and the hampers are a great idea (might have to borrow that one from you if you don't mind ;) )

I'm not doing to bad, had a bit of an expensive weekend and always regret in on a Monday morning. My BF keeps thinking of stuff for us to do and he knows I'm broke bless him but seems to forget this quite often.

Anyway I'm feeling positive today so hopefully it will be like this all week.

I'm reading the Allen Carr Easy Way to give up smoking at the moment, should have finished it by tomorrow then who knows! I've always smoked and tried to give up a few times but this book is really good, so fingers crossed. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm going on holiday at the begining of November (BF paid!) so any spare cash at the moment is going towards that. Then its Christmas so all spare cash will then go towards that :wall:

I'm really going to try and blitz the smaller CC now though so I figure if I do give up smoking then each day I'm going to transfer the cost of a packet of cigarettes towards that one. I'm going to do it daily to create more work for the bank ha ha!

    Hi Owesomuch,

Good luck with the stopping smoking! I think it's a great idea to put the cost of each packet towards a debt. One question - are you snowballing?

No probs about the hamper - and have a fab holiday! We are doing all our shopping at Tescos atm, so that our next years holiday can be paid for using club card vouchers :j

Edited to add - Whoo hoo about the phone company!!

  • Hey Brassic how's it going?

Not yet finished my book yet having a really busy week so still smoking at the moment :naughty: but I'm planning a nice weekend of staying in so I should have finished it by Monday.

Got my wage slip today and got paid for a couple more hours overtime than I was expecting so that was a nice supprise.

Still not received my refund from the phone company but they did say it could take up to 2 weeks :(

Just wondered if you have or are claiming back any bank charges?

Also the answer to your question is yes I am snowballing :)

    Hi owesomuch,

It's going ok - feeling miserable as at 10 this morning I had 2 teeth taken out and 2 fillings. It's hurt me and my wallet (£200  ) but fortunately I can claim back most of the money.

I am reclaiming bank charges, but only got so far as listing the charges, need to get my butt in gear and send off the next letter. How far are you along?

In the mean time baby is having a nap so I'm going to follow suit and hope that my teeth have stopped bleeding/hurting when I get up.

  • Poor you, well I hope you feel better soon!

I dread the bill everytime I go to the dentist, was lucky enough to get with an NHS dentist after being on a waiting list for 2 years! So I've said  bye bye to my private dentist now.

I'm attempting to claim back some bank charges from a closed account so I don't know if I will have any luck or not. They have got to reply by today then I'm sending off my LBA. I have a sneaky feeling that I won't have a reply waiting for me on the doormat when I get home from work! I'll keep you posted though :)

Well, I've still not sent off my bank charges letter

AND - I've made a purchase for myself. :o And not even a MSE style purchase <hangs head> Whilst walking to school the other day I discovered my 4 year old expensive trainers now leak :(:( Seeing as I'm selling my car and winter is coming up I decided some Timberland style boots will be the way forward. Determined to do this the MSE way I went to Tescos and bought a pair of Cherokee ones. 25 quid. Bargainlicious. Wore them the 50 yards down the road to get dd from nursery and they tried to slice my ankle off. Grrr

Undeterred my next port of call was one of these cheapy shoe places where there was a fur lined pair for 20 quid. Even better! 5 quid cheaper and with fur. Purrr. Got them home only to find the reason they're 20 quid is because the fur hides the steel rat traps hidden in them which seem determined to remove half the skin round my leg.

Found myself in Guildford and decided to look for a better pair. Went into shoe express. Found a pair of 15 quid ones. They fitted! Next to them sat a pair of Timberland ones. They fitted too but cost 45 quid.

Guess which ones I came home with?

On the plus side they fit, they will last (or at least they'd better) and I like them lots. :j

On the downside, they cost a lot more, and I now have 3 pairs of boots at home cos I haven't taken the other 2 back. Can someone please give me a good kicking please? However, they were paid for out of bank account (not cc) and will be covered by pub wages which are usually used solely for overpayments, just be less next week.

There is some good news though, a bloke down the pub I work in knows a bloke in the trade who is interested in my car. Should know tomorrow whether he wants to take it off my hands - keep fingers crossed please.

Am totally lost atm though because my spreadsheet has crashed :wall:

Think that's all my news for the moment, how are you doing owesomuch?

Well done Brassic - you've learnt a valuable lesson and that is important. A bargain isn't always a bargain, well done on the timberlands they should last well!

I don't know if shoes can be taken back if they are not fit for purpose? or if this can be proved - else try selling them on ebay or car boot them.

Good luck with the sale of the car

Fortunately I didn't wear the furry ones outside, so will take them back tomorrow (working today). I will definitely argue my case with Tescos, and show them the scab on my ankle to prove it. You can hardly tell they've been worn out since it was for such a short time.

Went to bed at 2am last night as I was recreating my spreadsheet. I NEED it, can't bear not to know finacially where I am nowadays.

  • Hi all,

Just a thought but have you ever considered buying shoes second hand. I have a pair of Timberlands that I'm planning to put on ebay as I have never worn them as they always seem to be either too smart for scruffy things or to scruffy for smart things.

I just checked and there were nearly 1,600 mens timberlands listed in the UK alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!
