Can i just say that if Tesco are aware of all these glitches and that they have been in the papers, then why dont they just put the right price on the computer system.
It sounds like it should be such an easy thing to do but I don't think it is, otherwise it would have been done by now. I think pricing gets done at a different location to the store, I'm pretty sure every Tesco Manager in the country would personally change the computer systems for their store if it was in their power.
I wonder if the whole thing is computer glitch, a huge mistake by someone somewhere or a disgruntled employee causing hassle before they left.
I have seen items that have been priced up and scanned through the tills at twice what they should have been and these were taken out of stock until the price thing could be fixed which took ages, so it works both ways.Debt Free: 01/01/2020

The way I see the law, any shop does not have to sell you anything. You offer to buy at the price indicated by the checkouts and pay your money. At the point where money is exchanged (and this includes the self scan taking your money) the contract is sealed. Therefore even if the items have been scanned and put into your own bags, they are not yours until you pay. Therefore if a shop realises an item is priced wrongly they are entitled to recover the goods from your bags and remove from the bill (receipt). Once they have taken your money and you have your receipt they cannot take it back.
I also think that there is a mixture of genuine RTC items they want to get rid of (hence Tesco statement that it is not a glitch) and some that have been mistakenly reduced to 1p (cuponk).
Lastly, some 1p items still around... got 2 stig socks, 1 daddy cool socks and 3 smelly valentine socks, all 1p each - done at self scan when assistant busy/away.I miss too many pages due to work so if you need an answer from me, please send me a PM.

i used to work in a well known stationary store and we had many products at 1p. the reason for this is the stock is now discontinued and therefore becomes known as 'penny stock'. it gets put aside in the stock room until it is recalled. many of times there has been stock accidently left on the shop floor for customers to pick up and take to the till. the employees were told not to sell these items to customers and return them to the stock room. occasionally if there was large quantities of one product then the manager would put a sale sticker on and price it up at very low prices then cover the barcode with another sticker with a code for the sales assistant to put through the till so the product didnt scan through at 1p. this only happened if the product was missed off a recall and was then left taking up space in the stock room and was not going anywhere. hope this helps alot of confused shoppers as to why there might be 1p stock at tesco but then the sales assistant refuses to let you buy it.0

Putting a higher price bar code or price sticker on something that would scan at a lower price is against trading standard consumer law and the company would and should be prosecuted.
And I am sorry but regardless of when the contract is formed at till point, a company that would remove items from a customers bag after it being scanned is a company with the poorest customer service imaginable.0 -
I wonder how many more shoppers have gone through the doors looking for 1p rubbish items that tesco actually want to get rid of and bought tons of other shopping so stuffing the pockets of tesco yet again. Fab marketing ploy by the PR people. Well done, it worked.0

.
Sorry but that is total and complete rubbish! The law states that items must be sold at or below the price marked on them, or advertised at, not more. The bar code is simply a method of selling the item.
If the item had a wrong bar code then it would be perfectly legal to stick a new one over it. It would also be fine to change an item from say £1 to £30 in just one store providing the promotion and advertising was legally and correctly done.
If the bar code is replaced so this can be done then that is perfectly legal! The law doesn't stipulate which bar code is used!0 -
