Odd - "If things don't add up - In the unlikely event you are charged more than the price on the shelf or product we will refund you double the difference" - unless it has changed.0 -

Naomi you need to kick up a fuss. They were so wrong not to give you dtd. You really should complain to Head Office and they will probably send you a gift card to make up for their error.
It doesn't matter whether its marked on the shelf or not. My son bought a dvd a few days ago price sticker £12. It went through the till at £15 so he went to Customer Services and they gave them the £3 back plus the £3 dtd so he really paid £9 for the dvd. Their was no argument and they did not even bother to check the shelves as the sticker was on the dvd.

What DVD was this, might be worth putting it on the Tescos misprices
Hi
It was Transformers on Blu ray. But I don't think there will be any more about as my son went back the next day to see if any more were mispriced and all the sticky labels had been removed from all the dvds etc.

They were completely in the wrong, you should have read the out the blue board to them it clearly says if you are charged more than the price on the shelf OR ON THE ITEM.0 -
Sorry but that is total and complete rubbish! The law states that items must be sold at or below the price marked on them, or advertised at, not more. The bar code is simply a method of selling the item.
If the item had a wrong bar code then it would be perfectly legal to stick a new one over it. It would also be fine to change an item from say £1 to £30 in just one store providing the promotion and advertising was legally and correctly done.
If the bar code is replaced so this can be done then that is perfectly legal! The law doesn't stipulate which bar code is used!
Well we'll agree to disagree then.:p0 -

Its not a case of agreeing or disagreeing.... You can disagree as much as you like but you need to check your facts before posting incorrect statements about trading standards etc on a forum. The barcode is merely a series of lines which the till reads in order to generate a price. If they want to change the barcode to another one to facilitate reading a different price, or change the price the barcode scans at, then the only legalities are that they show the correct price on any signs or labels on the product and obviously not to advertise products at a lower price than sold for.
In exactly the same way a retailer can charge different prices for the same product with the same barcode eg a store with city centre and airport stores. If they wanted to use a different barcode to facilitate this then that is immaterial.
The only way it would be illegal would be if they advertised them at a lower price eg 1p and sold them for more.
The internal price file is irrelevent. As is the bar code. The crucial things are what the item is advertised, displayed and marked at, and that you are charged that price or less.0
