Nothing I could find in Perth.
SA obviously thought I was up to something when I asked her to scan a couple of things.

    Hi.

Just wondering if anybody can help me out. I was out bargain hunting late on Tuesday night. I came across some of the "Daddy Cool" and "Stig" socks mentioned in this thread. I picked up f pairs. I also bought other bits and bobs and went to the self service checkout. The superviser and a securityguard were chatting away as i scanned the barcodes of the various items in no particular order. Then after i had scanned my final pair of socks, the scanner came up with an error message. The supervisor came and scanned her id card and said:

"er.....i am sorry but i can not sell you these socks. They have been put out in error and should be sold for £2 as you can see from the price tag". She then took the socks from "MY SHOPPING BAG" and re-scanned and remmoved these items from my list (this shown on the recipt).

I was absolutely fumming and "said thats not fair, you cant do that". Again she mentioned that they were ment to be for £2.

Is there anything i can do, it just doesnt seem fair to me, how could she do that. Now that i have seen the mail article in which Tesco sposkperson has said that it wasnt a glitch, can i do do anything.

Anyone care to help me out.:(

All you can do is speak to the store manager and ask him to let you have some other socks at 1p as she had no right to remove them from your bag. He might tell you to naff off, he might be helpful. Only one way to find out I'm afraid.

You could email terryleahy's office directly at Tesco, but my guess is they are going to get lots of complaints like this after the shoddy way many people have been treated.

If it were me, I'd pop in and see the store manager. You've nothing to lose.

I managed to get the stock cubes for 1p in Dundee, no After Eights. Will go back tomorrow with the list. They don't have a price scanner. If an item shows at full price at the self service, can you cancel it? Never done it because I normally use the Teco Card to pay and you have to sign for it.

    Dear Tesco

    You are boring me now...

You have switched off the price check scanners, and have now put security guards as well as SAs on the self scan tills at my local Tesco, yet your press spin doctors say that the 1p items are not a glitchl!?!?!

Still... I wouldnt worry, at least the Daily Mail reporters who have plagurised this thread are just as inept as you are. You will have been full of shoppers today trying to buy a £13 Kerplunk game (Errmm It's called CUPONK!) for 1p.

    Dear MSE

Why has this thread has been hijacked by someone who didnt write it or contribute to it on the first post?

Why did you contact the Tesco press office? :(

  • Apologies if already mentioned but soooo many posts to read and check (got half way through the pages since I last visited the thread and still over 100 posts to go!

Deal posting on HotUKDeals claiming to have bought 200g bar of White chocolate (previously unlisted) for 1p - bought today. Barcode unknown and another member reporting scan at full price so could be specific barcodes only

A good tip for self scan :)

My hubby acts dumb at one self scan, scanning things and bagging them on the floor so the assistant is hovering telling him he has to put the items in the bag on the weight reader blah blah ... meanwhile, I'm scanning my Cuponks and socks with a box of teabags at another till whilst assistant is distracted, and all bagged and gone before assistant even knows I've been there, lol.

    Teamwork :)

One of the best tips I've ever seen. Utterly brilliant!

Well dragged my OH to tesco tonight armed with a little list of umbrellas, and socks, just right for a couple of christmas pressies...

Found no socks, and the black and pink umbrella scanned as full price:(

Couldnt find a self scanning machine at all.

Has a look for head and shoulders shampoo....gordon bennet, I didnt know the did such a variety!!! All the bottles were the curvy ones, but not a 065 bar code in sight!!!

I bet the cctv guys have been having a right laugh at everyone on the shampoo isle today turning all the bottles round to look at the bar codes!

Ah well, would have been nice to get a couple of things, I mean 1p...thats the ultimate bargin really!
  • hi, just to let everyone know - despite me thinking the 1p bargains were over I went to a big extra store on the way home from work and found the Stig socks - there were loads I bought 3 pairs but left some for others, I also tried the after 8's but scanned at £2.08 so I asked SA to remove as I thought they were on offer - and I didn't want to pay that for them!!! Then called in a smaller store nearer home an dpicked up 3 more packs of the 60 denier tights very happy.
