If you do not wish your customers to buy your discontinued lines for 1p set your system to change the price to £999 when it is to be sent back therefore saving you money time and the goodwill of your customers as I guarantee we will not buy your tat that even you don't want at at that price. Either that or ensure your sales staff and your customer service staff understand consumer law and treat your customers with some bloody respect instead of the cash cows you think they are.
I thank ya.
(where I work (not tesco) our DC'd items are sold to us for £1 and if you think the general public are not aware of this practice you are mistaken. Are you really going to RTD a few pairs of socks that have been de-listed. I doubt it.)
Would be a nice DTD - overcharged by £997.89 (doubled) :rotfl:0 -

And it doesn't see anything wrong with that? Anything inconsistent with its claims to be friendly, green, etc? I'd rather they let the staff have them, or local charities, or even just canny MSE-ers!
I have been wrestling with my conscience tonight, but seeing that makes me think I SAVED THOSE POOR LITTLE TOYS from being destroyed! (I've watched Toy Story 3)
On a serious note, they 'claim them back'?? Off tax? I know that if a painter and decorator(for example) does not get paid for a job he does, he can claim that on his tax ( I do not know the ins and outs), therefore is this what Tesco do for unsold products!?0 -

That is precisely what we are doing on this thread and its open for anyone to read. You can also be sure some stores will have people watching these threads and removing goods from the shelves. By putting it in his email he is just waving a huge flag to tesco telling them to sort themselves out and once again WE, the money savers will be losing out, just as we did when he told the world about tescos coupon policy.
I sometimes wonder whether martin works for US or TESCO!!!0 -

Sadly yes - I regularly see employees clearing hundreds of packs of bread rolls into large pink plastic sacks at ca 7-8 pm. When questioned, they say they don't have time later so are clearing stock for the bin now. Yes, the bin. None of it is given to charity or sold off cheap. It goes in the bin. On complaining to a supervisor about the shocking waste, she just shrugged her shoulders and said "we just do as we're told". And they still make billions.
I thought I read somewhere that supermarkets are not allowed to give food to charities, for health reasons, but can't find it. Have found articles saying that Sainsburys does donate food?0 -
hi all , first post here , but thought i'd share some info . Most of the 1p stuff SHOULD really never be on sale . Its part of the companies " clear to zero " which zeroes down bookstocks ( what the instore computer thinks the store has in stock ) and helps stores clear through discontinued lines to make way for new lines . The stock does not go straight to 1p but goes half then 75% . Look for the yellow label with " RTC " on the bottom . If you look closely in the next few days or so most stores will put on an extended seasonal range , not all of which will be available instock at the very start BUT some will in my experiance still be at 1p from when they were reduced in January . Clothing is a differant matter because the ranges change so quickly in relation to food items . Clothing barcodes tend to go " not on file " , barcode wont scan at checkout , so any old range stock is reduced to 1p and its up to stores what they do with it .
Hope this is of some help , theres always 1p stock around its just a matter of knowing where to look .0 -
'Westernsmt' - does the 't' stand for TESCO!!??!!0

hi , not the t is not for tesco BUT I do work there , and the stuff that is thrown out or reduced to pennies is bewildering ! heres a hint look for a section that looks empty or low in stock early in the morning now if all things are equal and its not a filling problem from the night before it might be up for merchandising , a plan change , which most of the time results in lines being " RTCd or Reduced To Clear " through the system .0

returned early this evening feeling smug about securing 4 cuponk's - great christmas presents...and also found head and shoulders and diffusers that were £8 but scanned as £2...not the 1p bargain but bargain find nonetheless...happy days:j0

A question for you western.
I found a store today with cuponks, but the space on the shelf was bare. The person doing that area was off sick so another guy went to the computer on that level and checked and it showed a 'case' of the item in stock. Another member of staff said there were no toys in the warehouse at all. The guy also said according to the screen, none had been sold in the past few days.
So where is this case? Is it yet to be delivered, or has it been sold but not showing on the computer yet as sold? Any ideas?0 -
well they do as they please my shopping and my toddlers dinner was taken away once and me thrown out of store for asking why a German product was sold in polish packaging without english translation or any other language how to prepare it as I did not think it was legal to do so. to which I was answered its for the Polish community only, which is a racist remark in itself, but I said that is not acceptable and actually racist to anyone not polish, to which I was told Germany was prison state and some other pretty offensive stuff and as I had told them I was German to clarify about the product and its origin, they spouted some more racist stuff (some relating to hitler some to GDR) and after I said well actually that is racist, they took my food off me shouted at my kids both under 3 at the time and thrown out of store and we had to go out of our way to sainsburys to have dinner not returning home till after 7, can you imagine how upset my kids were still not having dinner by 8 at that age.
not to justify how they spoke to you & kids (sounds horrendous, poor little ones) but EU law says that if a product is labelled in 2 EU languages it may be sold in any EU country. Usually English is used as one of them but it's not compulsory lol0
