got banned from tesco tonight surrounded by 5 to 6 staff and asked loads of questions, then got accused of being a thief (malpractice they call it). not sure if specific store ban or all over as they said they would be sending my cctv picture round to all stores.

Thats awful......not like they are going to earn big bucks by stopping the 1p sales!!!! Or are they???

I would deffo take this further......how was u to know that the items were going to scan at 1p??? ;)

Sorry you have had all that grief tonight. That is totally overstepping the mark by Tesco and you really need to take it further.

I complained about the way an sa rudely rifled through my bags to swipe my stig socks and received this response-

I understand how upsetting this must have been and I am sincerely sorry that you have been made to feel like this.

With regards to the member of staff confiscating the product, this is because these products are scanning through at a penny and the reason for this is because the line has been discontinued so the system automatically puts the product to a penny. I have spoken to a member of Staff on the Customer Services desk today who has told me that although the product has been discontinued there are still some items that have slipped through the net and are still on display. Members of Staff have been instructed to remove these from shopping baskets if they do scan at a penny as they are not allowed to sell this product at that price. The staff members, contrary to what your friend claims, do not keep these for themselves, they are accounted for on returns documents then wasted, accounted for then the store claim back money for the product. This is regular practice instore and I apologise that you were not able to buy the product but the staff were instructed not to sell these if they came across them.

I will no longer be doing any regular shopping at tescos, this isn't the first time I've had problems with them. The staff at my usual store are so rude too, the online ordering staff usually block the aisles and assume they have right of way, even if it means crashing into the trolley which my 18month old son is sitting in.
I think Martin should consider not including this in the weekly email as it would seem a lot of people could end up being treated quite badly by tesco staff.

I'd walk in bold as brass tomorrow and stomp my feet asking for the store manager and lodge a very official complaint. Any tesco employee better be quick at dodging a swinging handbag if they want to call me a thief for taking advantage of their inerptitude!!!

A few other comments from today.

The gold sequin bag scans at £3
The stock cubes scanned at full price in both the stores I found them in.
Found loads of the minnie mouse socks but all scanned at 50p. Plenty of other socks scanned at 50p too instead of £2 as I spent a while checking quite a few so worth trying any if you have the time.
One store said its been store policy for sometime not to sell any item which scans for 1p. She did suggest I could put the stuff back in my basket and take it to the selfscan though which was nice.
Not found any after eights anywhere which is a shame.

I'm also dismayed to hear Martin is to include this in his weekly email. I've still not forgiven him for getting the coupon policy changed in Tesco in such a dramatic fashion as it is and this is likey to end with MSE'ers being called thieves and harrased in store. Not clever Martin!!

basically then the staff are not doing their jobs in the first place if the items have slipped through the net -they should have removed them - so would it not be better for Tesco to get their finger out and sort out their staff rather than treating customers in this manner.
