WARNING Utopia Office Ltd consortium - cheap Dyson DC31 Animal - or not!

Surprised to see that Utopia are still at it....
1. Stocks of Dyson DC31's are low generally so Utopia will have probs fulfilling orders - prices have generally increased to nearer £140 from regular retailers - so Utopia's price of £105 (as at 12/01/2011) looks irresistible, especially with the £5 discount if paid for by cash.
2. Lot more newbies posting saying they haven't got theirs, then hey presto! two days later it arrives (apologies to honest posters - note there is nothing to stop Utopia creating 100's of user names and making posts).
3. Has anyone actually cancelled an order and got their money back? John/Anthony, why not use one of your fictional user names to give incremental confidence to potential unwise shoppers?
4. If you want to cancel you need to write to Utopia, preferably using recorded delivery - use the template on ConsumerDirect - http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/making-complaint/template-letters/DSR_services/ You will have to wait upto 30 days for your money. If not received then you can report it to the ConsumerDirect and then Internet Fraud Police Unit.
5. There are buyers who believe that Utopia should be given the benefit of the doubt. I disagree, as Utopia is still advertising their goods with the option of using a credit card - which after 5 months (at least) they are unable to honour (my guess is that credit card companies won't touch them), I suggest that this is actually dishonest at best. Why should online retailers be given the benefit of the doubt if they continue such practices? Paying via bank transfer/cheque to a company you have no knowledge of, is contrary to good internet practice (as forcibly stated elsewhere on MSE).
Remember the old adage "If in doubt, keep out"0 -
As I posted earlier this week saying this is a total scam it is only fair to say our Dyson 31 was delivered yesterday.
Doesnt significantly change my opinion of a company who operates in this way and the request to pay by bank transfer due to CC processing issues for months is defintely dodgy.
Bottom line we wont be going anywhere near Utopia again with what we have found out about them plus the hassle involved in saving a few quid but its seems only fair to point out the goods did turn up eventually.0 -
Well the threats seemed to have worked as my Dyson was delivered 2 days after I emailed threatening them with the press etc.
I did email them (Utopia) and gave them a bit of advice to buck up on there Customer Service skills, not that they'll take any notice but that's there choice. I'm happy now as my Mothers Christmas Present has finally arrived :j0 -

Their customer service was excellent, they kept me informed of progress and advised me when despatched.
I would recommend and I only paid £94.99 including discount for making payment via IB

Any why wouldn't I??
I was watching this forum after googling Utopia to see whether other users had bad experiences with the company. (Standard practice from a net-savvy purchaser).
Came across this forum and was interested in what was being said. Followed some of the advice and when I finally received my Dyson I wanted to let other users know - as they were probably thinking the same as me - money lost.
Want to let these other people know that if they pursue they can/will get their Dysons too.
Afterall - I would say my posts have been a 100% more constructive then your statement.
Your statement isn't factual either - when have I said how good Utopia is?!
Well done you for posting a non-factual, totally irrelevant and unconstructive message. :T

where do I mention any individual new user saying how good Utopia is?
Guilty conscience, perhaps?

That we are happy? That you decided to register? That you all decided to tell us that wonderful company called Utopia has now delivered your bargain of the year Dyson vacuums?
All factual, all relevent to a thread about Dyson vacuums from Utopia, and a nice constructive thank you to all the customers of Utopia.
Dont be so defensive....====0 -
After yesterdays promises I didn't hear a thing last night (as unfortunately I suspected) so I sent a "polite" e-mail today and to be fair to John he rang me back within 10 minutes of me sending the e-mail. In my humble opinion he does sound a pretty stressed out bloke who's got a lot on his plate and who hasn't been able to cope. He told me that my order is being processed now and my tracking confirmation will be sent tonight. I won't find anything else out until Monday as I've been conversing on my works e-mail but I must admit I feel a little bit more positive than I did 48 hours ago. Don't get me wrong I have little sympathy as they are still advertising these units on-line and taking people's money but hopefully things will go to plan and I'll have something early next week (I seem to have thought that a lot though over the last few weeks).0

Ordered mine 6/12/10 was emailed like the rest of you with card problems and did a bank transfer (IDIOT THAT I AM) never again lesson learned here, if this is not a scam will let you all know when mine arrives !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't get through on the phone no answer to emails
What else can you do - getting fed up with the wait and very disappointed with lack of anything.0 -

"net-savvy purchaser" paying by cash!!! Need I say more?
Secondly regarding the point about being constructive, I would dare to suggest that those such as D123 trying to warn less savvy purchasers, are in fact being very constructive trying to warn punters about Utopia - after all they have been hiding behind the CC problem for nearly six months - this isn't a weeze to reduce CC costs - the £5/£10 discount costs Utopia more - it is more probably a case of CC not wanting to RISK any Utopia exposure. Utopia have had plenty of time to change their website hence the reason why some of us question Utopia's bone fides.
Probably over 40 newbies have come on here saying you haven't got theirs, and then coming back two days later saying its arrived, are just perpetuating the myth - no wonder some are questioning why so many newbies are posting here, when really we should all be saying, be careful. If you're worried, follow Consumer Direct guidelines, cancel, and ask for your money back.0 -

Well that would be a bit too late for a majority of people on this thread as they've already parted with their money and only on here to see how to salvage the situation.
You have to bear in mind that like me, there are some genuine posters on this thread that have got their Dyson (eventually). I was only posting to give other unlucky people my advice on how I dealt with the situation.
There is no way I can prove that I'm a genuine customer, you just have to take my word for it. Other than that, shoot me down like the rest of the other new members!0
