Dilemma - want to move to country but away from family

All credit to gingerwhinger and her ex - they have obviously maintained good enough relations to be able to live near each other and both be there for their children while moving on with their lives and getting new partners - which isn't easy after a relationship break-up. Their children will be benefiting from having Mum and Dad around and seeing them get on with each other so I can understand that the OP doesn't want to spoil that by upsetting Dad.
I wonder if gingerwhinger has spoken to her ex since first mentioning the possible move? If she goes through the benefits for the children and shows that she is taking his dismay at the possible move seriously, he could come round. It's going to be better for everyone if Dad feels that his views are respected and that gingerwhinger is thinking of ways to mitigate any difficulties the move could cause.
Let's hope he will be able to see that the move isn't too far and won't reduce the time that he has with his children.0
