No offence taken, I know some people will be tutting away in secret...
I gave her a desert spoon of baby porridge a few nights ago- just to test the water if that makes sense?? Ive not given her anything since but her reactions tell me she might be ready soon. (That's my own instinct though...) And the whole weaning thing does include the boob, I want to be in some kind of routine before I go back as I will need to make a desicion to express or transfer to formula.
I would love to just take the whole of my mat leave and breast feed until she's ready to give it up.
But that is a no no!
LOL - you could still be there in 2 or 3 years if you go until she decides to give up!!
I went back to work and continued to BF. He either had formula or EBM when I wasn't around and BF when I was around. We carried on like that until Benjamin was about 55 weeks and at that stage he didn't care when we stopped - he has never once asked for any boob...although he did once lick my boob in a kind of 'I remember putting my head here for some reason' kind of way!!!
You are A's mummy, you know what is best for her, you know when she is ready.
6 months is a guide, that is all (and I think they might be going back to 4 months anyway!). Nobody flicks a switch in our babies on week 26+1 which means that they can eat, same as no-one flicks a switch at 1 year saying they can now have cows milk...it is all just the best information that the government can throw at the whole of the nation at any one time. And they so very often err on the side of caution or have a knee jerk reaction to a single study which results in a blanket 'ban' on something which was perfectly acceptable yesterday.
The good thing about here is that opinions and experiences are so widely spread that you will very rarely be 'the first' or 'the last' or 'the most scandalous' - for as many who may tut then there will be others who are thinking 'what the hell are you waiting for'. The trick is to listen, consider and then do what the hell you like
...I might well be the most gobby though
please listen to MFD - she is a wise woman

Michelle - I think you go by instinct, I agree with Hammy and MFD. Amelie started on food early - she was starving, and wasn't quite 4 months. I tried Freddie on food at about 4 months because I mistakenly thought he was ready, and he immediately stopped sleeping and got upset, so I stopped and restarted him about 10 days ago and he's responding really well now.

Thankyou ladies.
I value your honest opinions.
I will have to start doing some more research. Im not quite sure which meal(s) to begin with? I was thinking around tea time?? Or should I go with breakfast?
Yay for hammy! Did you sleep through too or did you wake up to check why he hadnt woken too? :PFirst baby born 10/06/10:heartpuls 6lb 10z:heartpulsI love my little family0 -
I started with teatime, simply because it was the least rushed mealtime, and then I went with breakfast quite quickly after that as that was when he seemed hungry...

I started with lunch time just so I could see how he reacted to food without it causing too much trouble at bed time
I have been awake since 4 but only cos I have been in pain - David is more than capable of letting me know he is awake so I don't bother worrying about him when he is asleep

Michelle, we wonderede how Amber would take to signs since we use them with Chris. So far she looks at us like we are mad. I 'think' she is aware of the milk one, she will sometimes get excited but as she is really not fussed on milk at the moment it could just be random. So no signs back.
Amber was given solids at 21 weeks. When I say given, I mean she shoved her hands into my cottage pie and started eating it. The boys were a lot younger. Tried Amber a few times on porridge before that but she wasn't bothered. I don't like the 6 month rule myself. Some babies will be happy to not have solids till after 6 months, some are wanting it at 4months. So long as it's over 17 weeks (which is the only thing they all agree on now) and they are eating rather than the food being forced in, it's all good. Each to their own.0 -
very, very cute MFD
