one of them has said before that he got up at 5 and hardly saw his kids and that that's just the sacrifices you make for the job. So it seems to me they have a 'what would you want to do that for?' attitude.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

I'm sorry MFD I didn't mean to do that or for it to seem like that, I think perhaps the written word is hard for me to explain properly, without tones of voice etc.
I am just being defensive because I think the reality is quite harsh and I don't want you to hear it from meplease listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -

oh that's a relief I thought you thought I was being leading questions-y and I didn't want you to think that cos I like you, see?!
Fair enough about the reality being harsh if you'd rather not say. But I think I'd rather hear it from friends I trust, so if you'd like to, please feel free to carry on

Weezl, having thought about it and bit more, unless there are other issues, I'd say it's probably best to consider it to be well-meaning and genuine (albeit misplaced and possibly prejudiced) concern. Presumably what they're trying to say is "you do realise it will inevitably slow down your progression" rather than "we'll give you the boot because we think you're not bothered about the job". Does that make sense?Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

I think you're right.
That is a much better way to try to think about it. DH is well-liked in work (and generally of course!) so it would be strange to be suspicious. Perhaps a symptom of my sensitive state of mind and how much I really want him to get offered it, so I sort of turn them into these powerful dinosaur horrid types in my head.

And now I have visions of your husband working with Tyrannosaurus Rexs. (I'm sure I've spelled and pluralised that incorrectly but you know what I mean.)Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Afternoon all, I'm back
I did multi-quote your post Weezl, but then discovered everyone else has said what I was going to.
We've had lots of fun at messy play this morning. It was foot (and hand, and bottom!) prints day, and so we are both just a little bit covered in paint. My friend came along with her new baby, so I got to meet him for the first time, which was fabThey didn't stick around long though, so I didn't get a cuddle, but maybe next time! He is 7 weeks, and I don't know how she is coping - her oldest is a month older than Izzy, and I can't imagine having a newborn now. Eep!
I have a very tired toddler here - I've confused her by giving her a beaker rather than a sippy cup. she will drink from them quite happily if we are out somewhere, but she doesn't normally want them at home, so she keeps giving it to me, thinking she is drinking my drink.Isabella Molly born 14th January 2009
