MCO Capital loan

May be the link for some but not me!
He's also got Sky too. You know about the database of Sky customers they dobbed into some dubious firm of solicitors who wanted to do them for copyright theft of !!!!!!? My Dad wasn't on it natch;), but if I were those people I'd be worried about the prospect of fraudulent activity using my details. There are all sorts of databases out there which go missing so I supposed their list could have come from any source or mixture of sources.

Regarding where our personal details may have been sourced from - is or has everyone at some time been a company director, or linked to that legal (and unfortunately fairly public) status somehow ? That would apply to my wife and myself. The electoral register is (or was) an obvious possibility - we now know that a neighbour (but not his wife) was also targeted. Interestingly one of our kids is registered at home but didn't get anything from MCO - but they are registered as a postal vote ... maybe that's the difference? I guess the fraudsters could have used the register purely randomly anyway.
My father was my company secretary but I've not been targeted so far though it's still a possibility.

That's exactly what I found on my Experian report - 2 checks - one generic and one specific to a £300 loan. I have since asked Experian to remove these MCo credit checks, which they have since done.
I wonder what info they get from Experian when they do the generic search, and what additional info they get when they do the loan search? It would be interesting to know.
I will definitely ask Experian to remove these checks from my record. It says quite clearly on the Experian report that searches of my credit report should only have been done with my consent.0 -

Like many others I have been watching from a distance, and reading everyone's input which has been really useful. My husband received one letter - so far, and I'm intrigued to find out where his details were captured from since we are not in the phone book. Interestingly enough I noticed that many, but not all have mentioned they are company directors. My husband has 2 directorships so at the moment I'm starting to think this certainly seems like a common thread, at least for most.0

Has you husband contacted Action Fraud (AF) in order to report his specific fraud and, more importantly, to obtain a Crime Reference Number (CRN)? I hope that he hasn't simply ignored this letter - however tempting this inaction may be - he really needs to respond - but not to MCO but to AF and possibly even to call the 0844 telephone number I would guess is on his letter - this should get him throught to Intrun Justitia (debt collectors) - enabling him to challenge the loan and request that it be removed from their (IJ) records?0 -
Hi,
Yes, thanks to this forum we have done all that. We didn't have a phone no. on our letter though. Contacted the police and received incident number who recommended we write to MCO at London address on footer of letter, which we did, despite the fact AF advised not toon their web site. Eventually got through to AF and received our CRN via e-mail.
Only thing we haven't done yet is contacted Expedia, but have found this all bit of an eye opener.
I keep waiting for the next letter to drop through the letter box but thanks to this forum I'm not worried now!0 -
In addition to having the MCO checks removed I asked Experian to apply what they call a "Notice of Correction" requiring anyone carrying out a check to have a password - only obtainable via myself This should only allow checks to be made with my permission!!!!!!! <fingers crossed>
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the password thing doesn't work in that way. When a search is done by say MCO they are given the password you have set by Experian. It is then for MCO to ask the person applying for the loan what the password is so they can verify the applicant is the person they claim to be. So it's a great system as long as the loan company is above board. If you have a dodgy bunch of fraudsters like MCO are (allegedly) then it won't make bu*ger all difference.
I think that is why Experian recommend you change it on a regular basis.0 -
I just want to reiterate (see my earlier post, page 32) that I already had a password-protected Notice of Correction on my Experian account and it didn't stop MCO getting what they wanted.
I spoke to Experian about this and the response was that it should have done, but they told me each company making enquiries has their own policy and if they choose to ingnore the Notice of Correction and password request that's up to them.
It's probably still worth setting one up though, as it will should stop fraudsters who are trying to get loans etc through the more legitimate companies - but if another MCO comes along it's not going to work.
It would be interesting to know if anyone else gets the same opinion from Experian - maybe you could ask if you speak to them. But I presume at the moment there is no way any one of us can stop this being repeated as we don't have any control over what is happening with our personal details at the credit reference agencies.
Otherwise, all quiet at the moment ... no more letters ... no house calls from debt collectors ... let's hope it stays that way.
