Joined the forum specifically to add weight to the numbers of people affected and also to express my gratitude to everyone on here who has supplied helpful advice. Nice to know I'm not alone!

I received my letter on 11 September, although it was dated 21 August. Start date of loan was 21 August and Expiration date 18 September.

Have applied to have the two credit searches MCO Capital Ltd did on my account removed from Experian's records. Again, like many others, the time at address information from MCO was way out.

Have written three letters to MCO (2 to Kingsway and 1 to one to Portland address). Have also emailed two separate addresses.

Nothing has been heard back from them!

I have rung Fraud Action twice, once just after receiving the Helploan letter when their advice was to write to MCO saying I hadn't requested a loan nor received any funds and a second, after their advice changed, in order to receive my CRN (Crime Reference Number).

I believe I have done all I can - so now will await the next step on the journey to getting this all sorted out. Whatever that step may be, I know I won't be alone.

    Thanks again.

    Hi ArcticUK,

Could you let us know the bank details on the letter and whether you think you have a good credit rating?

Just trying to gather more information. Thanks.
  • Another Helploan/MCO letter received here yesterday. Read through this thread and been in touch with a very helpful guy at Actionfraud and got my CRN. Advised me to bang off a letter to their HQ as well.

My husband got one today - same bank details as previously quoted on this thread :HSBC 404319/73663361

Just a thought - has anyone contacted HSBC fraud dept about blocking this account ?
As mentioned by others - some less savvy recipients may well end up paying money and with the truely shocking lack of action by the authorities over the past month I doubt they would get it back.

Like others I can't believe this company is kosher and even if they are they are breaking the law with their inadequate id checking.

Thanks to all for the support and information

    Hi Kim

Hope you've contacted Action Fraud and got your CRN? And that you have written to MCO quoting your CRN?
  • The guy I spoke to at Actionfraud said they'd been receiving 100's of calls about MCO daily.

I did this research after opening the post at 7.30pm and rang them at 7.59 - despite the website saying they are there 24/7 the message was we close at 8 !

    Will try again at 8am.

    Thanks for the helpful advice

I'm not entirely sure I agree with that - I spoke with Experian Fraud Investigators yesterday. (I had the MCO searches removed by them within 24 hours of being made aware of the searches. The dates respectively were 3rd Sept for searches, alert from Experian on my CreditExpert by email September 8th, they contacted MCO who agreed to remove the searches September 9th). Now what is interesting, is what that actually means - it's MCO accepting that the original application was fraudulent.
For that reason, I would make a very strong representation to Experian, as they CAN contact MCO, and demand that the erroneous data is removed. It's not about what might happen in 12 months, but adds to the numbers of proven false/fraudulent searches which have to be accepted by MCO.

All the searches mean is that it would look to another potential creditor that you had a loan approved. Apparently after 12 months this is wiped from your record at least that's what the rather disinterested character at Experian said to me. He also told me that I'd have to provide my power of attorney document, proof of address, proof of identity and a tissue sample before they would agree to deal with me rather than my father. Needless to say, that's just a tad too much hassle.

It seems to me that my complaint is recorded at ActionFraud who'll eventually get around to contacting me and give me a CRN. This thing would appear to be so big that that will inevitably take some time. The likelihood is that as part of the investigation process, Experian will end up doing a bulk deletion of searches and loans by MCO at some point so it'll be done anyway by default.

As I said, my dad has no need of credit and the fact that he has an outstanding loan for £513 will be of no consequence to him. I can perfectly understand that if it's your credit history on the line you'd be more anxious to sort it out. I'm sure everyone will be dealt with in due course so that'll do for me.

If I get a CRN from FraudAction, I'll just drop MCO/Helploan an email with it. From the sounds of it, postage for a special delivery letter may well be throwing good money after bad.

    Cheers,

    jahman
  • Jahman,

If you check this first, don't email them. Just write to the registered address without signing the letter.

    Hi Oldbloke

Payment was requested into the following account:

    Account number: 43846601
    Sort code: 404878
Bank name: Nordea Bank Finland Plc London
    Account name: MCO Capital Ltd
    Payment Reference: 10744-110012

    Good credit rating? Fortunately yes.
