There's always the chance that MCO are in fact a legitimate evil, robbing, bunch of loan sharks, and as long as that chance exists, it would be absolutely wrong for ActionFraud to tell you anything else, other than to put your rejection of their "loan agreement" in writing to them. If you don't, by implication, you are accepting their assertion, and in the event that they went to court at some point, that would not be good.
ActionFraud are busy, and have had their staff cut by a third. Naturally, the government doesn't believe that an organisation there to help the public should have any priority - if they were in charge of protecting banks from fraud they would probably have a limitless budget, and a big Christmas bonus to look forward to.
So remember that the guys you are talking to, are probably shellshocked with thousands of calls from people, some desperate, some taking their frustration out on them. They are not at liberty to tell you what's going on behind the scenes, but without their intervention, you would still have all the problems alluded to earlier in this thread - no interest and no help from Police, Trading Standards, or national Fraud offices. They need you to give them as much detail as you can, and any advice they offer is worth following.
And I don't work for them;-)

Well said Colinho - there's no question that AF are on our side and are doing their best to deal with thousands of victims. When this whole issue started AF were reluctant to get involved but all that changed on Monday and they are fully behind us. Remember that they are the formal public "window" or "gateway" into the NFIB (see NFIB web site) - it now seems that they have escalated our cases and are motoring.

I too received a letter dated 9 September yesterday for a loan of which I know nothing about. Same amount involved £513. Other than a mortgage, I've never ever taken out a loan and hopefully won't ever need to in the future. Looked online for any information I could find about Helploan and found a lot of information on the scam. I read through all of the very helpful postings on here and then contacted Actionfraud. I now have a CRN number and have emailed Helploan advising them that I have reported it as fraud, I will also try to phone them shortly and will also be following this all up with a recorded delivery letter to their office in London just to cover all my bases. I'm also keeping notes and dates and times on everything just in case the situation escalates.

I have also contacted Experian to ask them to remove the two searches which were done by MCO on 5 September and will also be contacting Equifax as well.

I usually only just read postings on this forum and have never felt the need to join in but I thought it would be helpful to register so that you all can get an idea of just how many people are being sucked into this whole ridiculous situation.

What a waste of our valuable time trying to sort this whole mess out!

Brilliant CW100 - you actions are a model for all to follow. I know that following all the posts on this forum is pretty daunting but you seem to have sifted out the relevant information and condensed it into a working plan of action - GREAT:T
  • I've just spoken to Surrey Trading Standards and they tell me that they've started having calls in the last week or so from others in the area who have also received the same letter. They are building a case with all the reports they are receiving.

The advice they are giving out matches what I have already done i.e. contacting ActionFraud for CRN number and writing to MCO. I was also told that I should retain any documentation and notes for 6 years after which the statute of limitations runs out! Until then, I could still be pursued for the money!!!

I have now been given a reference number which shows I have lodged the matter with them.

I suggest anyone who lives in the Surrey area should do the same. The telephone number is 01372 371700.

It all helps in case this whole thing gets totally out of control!

Write to MCO only at their registered office address, and don't physically sign the letter.

    Thanks.
  • I will be writing to Imperial House and I won't be signing the letter just as Helploan didn't have a signature on their letter!

All the websites of these sharks are the same. Written using asp.net so they are an absolute doddle to hack. This bank account features frequently: IBAN FI37 1112 3000 3823 22.

It would seem the 6 euro texts then receive an "approval" but no money is ever received quickly. They blame "the banks" for the delay which "can be up to ten days". So the emergency stopgap loan is received after 10 days with repayment due in 15. There is then contact from Intrum in Holland demanding repayment. There have been complaints about MVC bv in Rotterdam who are really MVC Investment Oy from Helsinki. They own vippiasema.fi as well as ex.extraatje.com, tz.vliegendgeld.com, beetjemeer.com, instantlening.com, which all have the same asp.net coding as the others. It could be the Intrum letters scam has been tested elsewhere before!

The helploan and balanceloan sites are asp.net and hosted in Finland with Codepoli Ltd on the same servers as the Dutch and Finnish sites. There are 61 sites hosted on that IP address with glorious names such as cash-it-up.com.

Many complaints have been made to AFM, the Dutch equivalent of our FSA about these people. Perhaps our lot could get together with their counterparts in Holland to put a stop to this.

They are coming! Stop them now before it gets worse. Remember, they are preying on the most vulnerable people in society and the way things are going, their market can only grow.

Just discovered Sweden, HTO Finansiering AB

    and Denmark,
    PDV Investment Aps

That's it. I've done my bit.
  • Hi all,
    Same story as others, received a letter requesting money yesterday from Help Loan requesting the payment of a loan i had not taken out. I have taken the following action;
    1. Called the excellent Action Fraud and reported the fraud
    2. Received a crime reference number
    3. Written formally to MCO by recorded delivery
    4. Denied all monies owed, requested confirmation that they accepted this, included my crime reference number and included my costs in the matter to date and my hourly rate which I would hold them accountable for should this matter continue (all without prejudice)
As I understand it this should draw a line under the matter.
A final point is I just want to say thanks to all who have posted, not so long ago this type of crime left us as individuals feeling alone, clueless as how to proceed and in many cases very worried. Now a quick google and we can instantly find others in the same situation and the answers we need, all who have posted have been a real comfort and help, thanks again.
  • Brilliant detective work, Elaine - your not an NFIB employee are you?;)
