  • Morning all!

Wow, a bit of a late night last night....

I'm not bothering contacting Experian. When this is all finished, the searches will be wiped and they'll have some difficult questions to answer. Are they the only credit agency involved with this? I know that Equifax no nothing about it, from what they've told me....unless any of you know otherwise.

Pardon my ignorance, but why are folks concerned about having MCO perform a search with Experian? What difference does it make? Why would I need to have it 'removed'?

I'm still awaiting a call back from ActionFraud. The chap I spoke to didn't seem that bright, (asked me to write to MCO still!!!) but I don't hold up much hope. Still, no doubt it'll provide justification when their budget get's reviewed - "but we're so busy - you can't close us down!!"

I appreciate I may appear a little jaded here - but this cottage industry of identity theft protection gets up my nose.....

There's always the chance that MCO are in fact a legitimate evil, robbing, bunch of loan sharks, and as long as that chance exists, it would be absolutely wrong for ActionFraud to tell you anything else, other than to put your rejection of their "loan agreement" in writing to them. If you don't, by implication, you are accepting their assertion, and in the event that they went to court at some point, that would not be good.
ActionFraud are busy, and have had their staff cut by a third. Naturally, the government doesn't believe that an organisation there to help the public should have any priority - if they were in charge of protecting banks from fraud they would probably have a limitless budget, and a big Christmas bonus to look forward to.
So remember that the guys you are talking to, are probably shellshocked with thousands of calls from people, some desperate, some taking their frustration out on them. They are not at liberty to tell you what's going on behind the scenes, but without their intervention, you would still have all the problems alluded to earlier in this thread - no interest and no help from Police, Trading Standards, or national Fraud offices. They need you to give them as much detail as you can, and any advice they offer is worth following.
And I don't work for them;-)

I wouldn't count on it. How are they supposed to determine which MCO searches are part of the fraud and which aren't. If you don't contact them and adbise them of the fraud it will probably just stay on your record.
  • Currently am awaiting the MET police to call back, as I spoke to their fraud department yesterday to log the fraud. I was told that via MCO’s registered address in London, they fall into their patch. If I hear back from them, I will keep you all posted.[/QUOTE]

    Thanks for that Catch them.

Erm - I reitterate a previous post - had this been an email, I'd just delete it. Just because I recieved a letter in the post (not recorded) does not mean I am 'accepting their assertion'. I'll happily have my day in court and charge them for my time if it comes to that. (I'm not cheap you know! :-)
  • I too received a letter dated 9 September yesterday for a loan of which I know nothing about. Same amount involved £513. Other than a mortgage, I've never ever taken out a loan and hopefully won't ever need to in the future. Looked online for any information I could find about Helploan and found a lot of information on the scam. I read through all of the very helpful postings on here and then contacted Actionfraud. I now have a CRN number and have emailed Helploan advising them that I have reported it as fraud, I will also try to phone them shortly and will also be following this all up with a recorded delivery letter to their office in London just to cover all my bases. I'm also keeping notes and dates and times on everything just in case the situation escalates.

I have also contacted Experian to ask them to remove the two searches which were done by MCO on 5 September and will also be contacting Equifax as well.

I usually only just read postings on this forum and have never felt the need to join in but I thought it would be helpful to register so that you all can get an idea of just how many people are being sucked into this whole ridiculous situation.

What a waste of our valuable time trying to sort this whole mess out!

Couldn't agree with you more! You're never going to see them in court.

If we can bring them down, then it will be worthwhile, but I wouldn't suggest contacting MCO by email.

Took Experian about three days to get the MCO search removed from my record. Pretty quick.

You were lucky - it's been a week now since I asked for MCO checks to be removed and they're still there. Guy on phone said that they need to have MCOs agreement to remove search (goodness knows why) and that could take a "few weeks"
  • Email was sent yesterday but I did send it from a 'secondary' email address just in case of problems. I do not for one moment expect a reply but just in case the situation were to escalate I wanted evidence to show that I have made efforts to contact them to let them know it has been reported as fraud.
