MCO Capital loan

Just seen the new information from Action Fraud. If you contact one credit agency, you've got to contact them all as they don't share information between themselves! Can you believe it! There are three Credit Ratings for each person in this country! If ever there was a case for one database this is it. I already pay Equifax for their service. Why should I also have to sign up to Experian and CallCredit to be able to check all three!
They are all private companies in competition with each other. Of course they aren't going to share information with each other.0 -
Only just realised the significance of this post ....... did you get the Helploan letter, following an MCO search which would have included your CIFAS notice of correction? Thanks
No, the CIFAS alert was removed a year ago. A CIFAS alert is a good way to protect you as this is sent to all the credit reference agencies, but it is only valid for one year and then removed from your file. Unless you keep renewing it each year, password protection may be the route to follow, as has been suggested in other posts.0 -
For information..... Have just spoken to Intrum Justicia. I had to call their office number (Tel: +44 (0)151 472 7155) as the call centre number quoted on the HelpLoan letter seemed to be suffering a melt down!
The agent who eventually took my call told me that my account had been blocked and passed to their fraud department. He told me that IJ had taken over the MCO business about 7 weeks ago from a company called Gothia, and almost immeadiately had been faced with a large number of people with one of these fraudulent loan claims.
He also told me that he was dealing with a significant number of people that had "payday" loans from MCO and were often regular customers.
In another twist to my experience with the Helploan letter, when I checked my credit record I found that in addition to the 2 credit checks that MCO conducted on me earlier this moth, there was a record of a "linked address" from 14 months ago. The address was a flat in Dagenham and my home address had obviously been given as a previous address in an application for a mobile phone contract. What is beyond a coincidence is that in both cases, the credit checks and the linked address, my surname had been misspelled. I have a distinctive surname which is often mispelt, but NEVER in the way it was in these two cases. It looks to me like however perpetrated this fraud had been planning it for some time....0 -

Thank you.
Already went for CIFAS a while ago, and password protection. Also wrote to the two "other" agencies, (Equifax and Callcredit) asking them to password protect my account. So far one response, from Equifax, telling me that they can only do something after I apply for my credit report from them, so online "free" after you give them credit card details and sign up for 12 months that it's your responsibility to cancel within the 31 days, or cough up £ 2.00 via mail. CallCredit haven't even bothered to answer.
Or to summarise, each time you jump through a hoop, you find you've arrived facing another hoop. Which may well lead back to the hoop you've started at.
Private companies they may be, duty of care they've never heard of.
Legislated they should be.
So I'm just off to post the Thumbprint letters to the lot of them, as described in earlier posts. I believe, but don't know the methodology, that there exists a mechanism for having your records completely removed? Anybody?0 -

Dear Customer,
You recently informed us that you did not receive a loan from MCO Capital. The first step you should take is to contact a credit reference agency to alert them of this matter, one agency is Experian at Identityfraud@uk.experian.com or creditexpert.co.uk to report that an individual is using your Identity to fraudulently obtain credit. If they have used your Identity with MCO Capital, they may be using it elsewhere.
Then you have to make a report of the crime and get a crime reference number or equivalent. This reference number you type in to the letter.
The next step is we will need to receive this concern in writing accompanied with the invoice to the address below. When this is received, we will take the next steps in regards to this matter.
MCO Capital Ltd.
Imperial House
15-19 Kingsway
London WC23 6UN
Identity theft is a serious problem for both you as a consumer and companies who grant credit as we both lose. As you may be the victim of identity fraud elsewhere, we urge you to further investigate this possibility. There are several websites available with information to help a victim of Personal Identity Fraud and what to do in these circumstances. For example, one such website is; CIFAS

Hi 159alfaman,
Thanks for getting involved with the forum.
Did you contact them via email? Did you only get their details from their website? What bank details did they give you for repaying this?
The only valid address is their registered address at Imperial House, no other details appear for them on the web, other than on their website. Previous posts have suggested other addresses, but I can't establish where these have come from. If they've come from MCO, I wouldn't reply to them.0 -
So forgive me for not contacting the government quango that is action fraud - I've been watching their useless advise (contact MCO Capital??? - great, and confirm my details to fraudsters? I think not) and I'm reluctant to contact these "service provider" credit reference agencies - as it's such a money making wheeze!
Surely they will have to wipe all reference of this MCO outfit once the scam is unrevelled. Why should I pay for that?0 -

Please believe this - Actionfraud ARE working hard to nail the bad guys. They need you to contact them as every case gives them more power to act. They're fighting for us against the inertia of their own bosses. Follow the advice earlier, and call them. Please.

I agree that up until Monday, Action Fraud were not much help - as they had not realised the extent of this fraud - but they have now amended their web site comments re MCO
http://www.actionfraud.org.uk/mco-capital-limited-sep10
and are asking us all to contact them (0300 123 2040) soonest. They are not really a quango as such - they are responsible for filtering fraud cases and escalating serious cases to the National Fraud Investigation branch (Scotland Yard). As of Monday, this issue has been escalated by AF. Please phone them - the more people they are aware of who have experienced this fraud, the better. They will also give you a formal Crime Reference Number which is useful for using in any letter to MCO - GO FOR IT:T0
