It said on the letter to pay within 7 days or to get in touch with MCO Capital if this is a case of fraud. The contact details on the letter are -
MCO Capital Ltd,
PO Box 6024,
Warwick,
CV34 9NR
info@mcocapital.co.uk
0844 879 7688

Interestingly enough, despite MCO withdrawing credit search in admission that it was fraudulent in October (after they were contacted by Experian on my behalf), despite Crime Ref.No, despite Action Fraud log, despite their own acknowledgement of my electronic as well as written (recorded) communications, I, too, have received a demand from Credit Collections UK Ltd.
I have replied but pointed out that at the end of previous correspondence, I had advised MCO that any further correspondence from me would incur a £ 60.00 administration fee.
I have invoiced Credit Collections UK Ltd accordingly, and failure on their part to pay in 7 days, will trigger immediate court action, as I will issue a summons.
I have also advised them that each and every further communication will be treated in the same manner.
They will ignore my invoice, as they will believe it to be empty threat. It isn't. The cost to me is £ 25.00, so I am quite happy to chance losing £ 25.00 for the pleasure of giving them some of their own treatment - it will cost them significantly more to defend the action, as I have all the documentation, and am quite prepared to go to court on this basis.
It might be a good idea for others to follow the same route, as the last time this "debt collection" started, it involved thousands of us. Perhaps several thousand summonses using the

online claims procedure would give victims a chance to fight back.
Also be aware that MCO monitor this forum - shame they don't spend more time monitoring their business;-)

You will have to prove that the £60 admin charge is fair - IMO you stand no chance and with their deep legal pockets will probably ask the judge to award costs against you - do you have a contingency fund for this?

Long time lurker, first time poster - I too had a pair of letters last year from MCO Capital about a loan with Balanceloan that I didn't take out. I read the advice on this forum, wrote to MCO, got a crime report number via the Action Fraud website (this was when they were still taking reports), then got a letter from Intrum Justitia, wrote to them in October... and then it all went quiet.

Until today when, in what seems to be a new pattern arising, I received a letter from Credit Collections (UK) Ltd. of Dronfield, Derbyshire saying that I took out a loan, didn't inform MCO Capital "why you are not liable for the repayment of the loan" and telling me to cough up £726 within the next 7 days! GAAAHHH!! And here was me thinking this was all done and dealt with! What do they think they're playing at? Just how incompetent are they?!
• Are the letters guys have had from Credit Collections UK Ltd all addressed from Dronfield ? They are pretty local to me so thought perhaps that's why they'd written.
• hi
just had a letter today from credit collections uk ltd, re this MCO scam. Luckily I googled it and saw all the threads about it.
however, I;ve not received anything before this at all - no invoice or anything. I will write as per other advice on the forum tomorrow. but it sounds as if people are now getting these debt letters anyway!!!!!

They were advised in writing of the charge prior to my making it, and have taken the action for which they were advised such a charge (and amount) would be applied.
I already taken all reasonable steps to comply legally and administratively to help them mitigate their losses, they have already been contacted by Experian on my behalf and accepted there is no liability on my part (I have both crime ref and action fraud ref ), so we'll have to see if a court will accept they have a liability under those circumstances. Think you'll find prior in this one. I'll advise the forum of the result - DYOR as regards online claims procedure and costs. I don't expect to win, but it would be a very nice precedent

All I'm saying is why £60 not say £6 or £600?
How did you come to that figure - if you can reasonably argue a case that £60 is correct then that is fine by me.

Having just read the recent posts, I thought I'd received a letter because I hadn't bothered to contact MCO, but it looks like they're sending out letters even if you had!

Anyway, just sent an email to both MCO and Credit Collections, so we'll see if that works.

• Hi there, I joined because I received a letter about this and found this mega thread on Google.

I got a letter asking for £726 on behalf of MCO Capital from a London debt agency called Northern Debt Recovery. I've followed the advice from City of London Police and am sending the following letter to MCO's Warwick address.
Dear Sirs

I received a letter dated 07 March 2011 from Northern Debt Recovery (NDR) - acting on your behalf - alleging that I took out a £300 loan from you on 13 Oct 2010 and that with penalties I now owe you £726.00. Copy enclosed.

It also alleged that you had previously made “a number of attempts” to contact me.

You will have received a copy of an email I sent NDR on 12 March in reply (to your lossprevention@mcocapital.co.uk address), but I am also sending you this letter, on the advice of City of London Police.

1. I have not taken such a loan; in fact have never heard of MCO Capital before today. You have made no attempts to contact me that I am aware of.

2. I did a brief web search which immediately led me to the following links, saying MCO Capital are involved in investigations for fraud by City of London Police following thousands of similar letters, and that under no circumstances should I pay the alleged debt.

(Links to Actionfraud and City of London Plod)

3. At the advice of the first website I have contacted Avon & Somerset Police and reported what I believe to be a fraud. My incident log number is XXXX. They are now investigating.

I am also advised that you are under obligation to provide proof of the debt and that it is mine to pay – which of course it isn’t.

I trust that you will find this matter concluded to your satisfaction. I would appreciate confirmation by letter or email that you will be taking no further action against me.

If you - or Northern Debt Recovery - contact me again with any attempt to obtain money, please be aware that I will treat this as harassment and contact the police again immediately.

I'm also sending a copy to NDR.
