MCO Capital loan

This is a monster thread with 70 pages already. That's huge and it just shows how many people are affected by this. Action Fraud now estimate the number of innocents to have been sent nasty letters at something approaching 20,000!
Hi Tonyor,
You're absolutely right, this is an outrage, but at least the Police are doing something. You should have been here last year when we were trying to convince AF that this was a huge fraud.
No one else was or is interested, so the only thing to do is to try and protect your ID with the CRA's, and get ready to deal with the next punt they have. Either that or change your name. Most of us have been victims before so, unfortunately, it's only a matter of time before someone else uses the information.
As long as you've followed the advice, I doubt you'll hear any more, and anyway, no-one's ever going to knock on your door. They have no proof. What I don't understand is where are the other posters, that were involved from the start? I refused to write to MCO at the time, perhaps that's why I got another letter, but I emailed them this time; haven't had a reply though.
I see Colinho has received a letter, so perhaps it's just a matter of time before the others come back...we'll have to wait and see.0 -
Hello Oldbloke,
I was one of those who had dealings with MCO back last September & who has just received a demand for payment from Credit
Collections. Like you, I've contacted both by email this time - and neither have replied. Maybe they're swamped by the number of replies
they're getting ?0 -
I've just received the following email:Thank you for your recent correspondence where you confirmed to us that you did not take out the loan reference number referred to above, and did not receive the funds that were transferred into a bank account opened in your name.
We treat all reports of fraud extremely seriously so we can confirm that we have placed this matter on hold pending formal investigation. The process of looking into this, including our investigation with the police, will take some time; but we will try to conclude this as quickly as we can. Please be aware that in order for criminal proceedings to be brought against the perpetrator you may be asked to cooperate by answering some questions or giving a statement to the police in respect of the alleged theft of this money. The Police will contact you directly if this is required.
We must emphasise that identify theft is a serious problem for both you as a consumer and for us as a company who grants credit. If you have not already done so, we urge you to check:
1. That a friend or relative has not used your details to obtain the loan and forgot to tell you. Please contact us immediately on 0844 576 5731 if you have made a mistake or do not want the fraud investigation to proceed and wish to arrange payment.
2. Your credit file to make sure that your details have not been used to commit other frauds, check this with any one of the usual credit reference agencies and also contact the UK's fraud prevention service CIFAS. They will help you to record the fact that you have been the victim of an identity theft with the credit reference agencies.
We can confirm that MCO Capital Ltd has been the victim of an organised crime and the City of London Police are currently investigating this case and will be in contact with you in due course. Once the police have confirmed that you have been the victim of identity theft we will remove any searches that have been carried out on your credit file.
Once again we would like to thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.0 -
Hi again to those returning names and welcome to new names (albeit in the usual sad and sorry circumstances undoubtedly caused by MCO Capital).
The issue seems to still be alive and kicking (usually in the groin!) as there's an update today (17 March - despite what the web address says) on Action Fraud Web site:
See: http://www.actionfraud.org.uk/mco-capital-march11-update-mar11
Bottom line is that these demands for repayment SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED and any newbie are strongly recommended to heed that advice. This update still insists that the praud has been perpetrated ON MCO Capital - which, to my mind simply cannot be the case. If this were the case, then MCO would have been in the hands of an administrator ages ago
Content as follows:
"MCO Capital Limited - March 2011 Update
City of London Police is continuing to advise anyone receiving a false demand for a loan in connection with MCO Capital to respond directly to the company. [17 March 2011]
MCO Capital fraudMCO Capital fraudMCO has fallen victim to an organised loan fraud that has used people’s personal details to make thousands of false loan applications.
Since launching its investigation before Christmas detectives from the National Lead Force for fraud have written to more than 7000 people whose personal details were used by fraudsters to make false loan applications.
The investigation team are now aware that many people are continuing to receive demand letters from various credit collection companies, asking them to pay back money they never received.
Anyone in that position should contact MCO Capital via the address of:
MCO Capital Ltd, PO Box 6024, Warwick, CV04 9NL
They can also call 0844 8797688 or email them directly at: lossprevention@mcocapital.co.uk.
Simple notification declaring you have not taken out a loan along with confirmation of your name and address should ensure enforcement action to reclaim the loan is put on hold whilst MCO Capital review your case.
The City of London Police has advised MCO Capital to show the necessary due diligence to ensure that innocent parties affected by this fraud are not subjected to further unnecessary distress.
Should you have any further information for the investigation team, you can contact them by leaving a short message on 020 7164 8222."0 -

I replied by asking if they could confirm that I would no longer be pursued by Northern Debt Recovery and got a reply from NDR:We acknowledge your email alleging identity fraud.
We take this matter very seriously and will be passing these details back to MCO Capital Limited (who issued your Balance Loan) to progress their formal investigation with the police.
They will be in contact to arrange an interview with you and liase with your local police station on this matter. Identity fraud is a criminal matter which can carry a prison sentance.
PLEASE CHECK YOUR RECORDS to ensure that you are convinced that this is a genuine fraud. We understand that mistakes happen. If you discover this is not in error you can pay by visiting (link to ndr)and clicking the PAY NOW tab
Almost makes it sound like my fault, doesn't it?0 -
Hi Rouncy and Geomacl,
This is incredible isn't it....and I wondered whether it might happen again. MCO know we've reported the fraud, contacted the CRA's and had searches deleted, etc. so our details should have been kept separately to any bona fide customers, not that there can be many of them, if any. So the question has to be why do it again? Perhaps their record keeping is as bad as their business plan.:rotfl:
More likely though, I wonder whether it's really something to do with their fictitious debt book and unsuspecting debt agencies...although the response to my email from Credit Collections seemed quite pleasant, unlike the one from this other lot in London that Slip de Garcon has posted. Yet again, there's two outfits sending the letters, bit odd isn't it? But I feel a bit left out as I haven't had any response from MCO yet.
We know there's nothing to worry about; no one's going to get a knock on the door, but it makes you wonder whether we're going to keep meeting up every six months or so, when our details are passed to yet another load of s**sters! :rotfl:
Anyway, I'm glad you're still here; it make's it easier knowing that I haven't been singled out. Unfortunately, we're all in this again together...Happy Days!
And to all the newbies just getting involved, don't worry, just report it and get a CRN, get any searches deleted from your credit file and password protect it, and just sit back and forget about it....and see you in six months!0 -
Being a newbie I can't post links, but there's an update on the Action Fraud website on this, dated yesterday. Stick this phrase into Google:
MCO Capital Limited - March 2011 Update
Doesn't say much different, apart from:The investigation team are now aware that many people are continuing to receive demand letters from various credit collection companies, asking them to pay back money they never received0 -
